RIU PALACE AQUARELLE, NEW RESORT OPENING IN JAMAICA.

RIU PALACE AQUARELLE RESORT, in Trelawny Jamaica will open its doors to visitors in May of 2024. This resort is located 5 minutes from the North Coast Highway, by travelling through a small rural community and beside one of Jamaica's top resorts.

I think they could have at least fixed cooper's pen road though..I welcome these kinds of development but it looks bad driving on an almost dirt road lined by zinc fences to arrive at such a luxurious resort

Great to you highlighting all these new developments in Jamaica and I appreciate it and look forward to seeing the developments taking place. However, there are also many other hotels that have closed their doors and it would be interesting if someone like yourself could do a series on these properties to see what state they are currently in and if any refurbishing work in progress. These include the following: Sunset Beach Resort, Montego Freeport, Montego Bay Fantasy Resort, Jimmy Cliff Blvd, Montego Bay Bravo Village Hotel, Braco, Trelawny Jewels Runaway Bay, Runaway Bay, St Ann Enchanted Gardens, Ocho Rios, St Ann Shaw Park Hotel, Ocho Rios, St Ann Golden Seas Resort, Oracabessa, St Mary Dragon Bay Hotel, Dragon Bay, Portland Former Hilton/Wyndham Hotel, Kingston If these hotels are brought back on stream this would be over a 1000 hotel rooms that would provide several needed employment jobs in the hospitality sector for many people particular in areas with low employment rates

Did you realize there was no community there before the hotels came. That community is informal and often spring up near hotels and newly formed hotel developments. So no they are not there for the beach, they are there for the employment opportunities.

@JadenMalik, did I stutter, no there was no community there before the hotels. I drove through that area before the hotels twenty-odd years ago and not one house or shop was there, so I am speaking from knowledge not just coming on here and uttering rubbish as is often done by the anti-tourism bunch who hate hotel development because they hate Jamaica's development and use the false beach access arguement to hide their true agenda.

Thank you for this great drone view. It's way to big and the design does not complement the area. Clearly no ine thought of this huge blick of concrete with seemingly no personality when it was approved. Why? It's an eyesore! Sadly, our Island cannot cope with the numbers of hotels/resorts springing up! For example, where does all the waste go? Polluting our beautiful sea and coastal shorelines? Jobs yes, but pay is poor and staff treated poorly too. Hard currency does not stay in the country. Do local people still have access to local beaches? Be careful what you wish for Jamaica! While billions come in via tourist dollars, euro, sterling etc, ordinary people are dying as they cannot afford health care. Who knew you had to source and buy everything you need for surgery? Cornwall Regional still in a poor state. Where's the reinvestment? Tired of seeing all of this tainted "excellence" for tourists while the ordinary people suffer. Time for change PM Holness. Jamaica MUST do better for its people.
