Wow the wrist projection is no joke. If I ever get velcros I'd consider these. I always get lace ups

I recently bought these directly from Rival, and I thought I share my impression here, as Rival will not post reviews that are less than 5 stars on their site (obviously). Not even sure why they bother asking for the feedback, if they are not intended to post it. Anyway... I bought 16oz gloves, and initially they were so tight that I had to put tennis and golf balls in order to make some room for the hands. They are quite compact, which I like, but it's a bit difficult to make a good fist in them. Maybe it make sense to go one size up, so maybe I should have bought 18oz, especially considering that the real weight of these are less than the nominal number (my 16oz weigh about 14.7oz). I thought they needed to be broken in, in order to fit better, so I used them on the bag, but even after a month of using them on the bag, they give me a lot of pain in the knuckles and especially in the wrists - so much that I had to take some time of the gym. I'm doing boxing for 7 years and my hands and wrists are generally well conditioned. I can work the heavy bag just wearing thin mittens, but not in these gloves. A few other things to note: 1) the thumb position feels great, but it's a bit protruding, and not as protected as in some other gloves, hitting an elbow can lead to an injury. 2) the padding is quite hard, it's actually very comparable to my Rival mexican bag gloves (which I love), maybe even slightly harder. I prefer softer gloves for sparring, in order to protect my sparring partner. For the same reason I don't by Reyes or any other mexican gloves for sparring, despite a very comfortable fit - they are great for the bag work, as well as for a fight, where you really want to hurt your opponent, but not for sparring. So, overall, despite great construction and material, I cannot recommend these gloves. I think there are much better sparring gloves out there, that cost same or even less.

What 3 sparring gloves would you recommend?
@leonshamis
@leonshamis 2 жыл бұрын
@@minataurmax4848 If you can afford it, just go with Winning. These are ones of the best, if not the best for sparring and hand protection. They feel soft but at the same time very protective. Most gloves are either too hard or too soft (you basically punch through them), but these are perfectly in the middle. And they will last you many years. But if you cannot spend so much money on Winning, I cannot recommend enough R2C C-17. These are Winning - like. To me they are actually better than Winnings in terms of protection for both, your hands and the sparring partner. This is because R2C 14oz has the same amount of protection as Winnings 16oz, and R2C 16oz have even more! I really like R2C C17 padding, it's soft from day 1, but you can never punch through it, so your knuckles are very protected (I'm 90 kg guy and can punch really hard). The padding also doesn't wears out or becomes denser, as in many other gloves. It's very similar to Winning, if not a bit softer. The only problem with R2C gloves - their leather is not the same durability as Winning's, mine rips in about 2.5 years of constant use in sparring and pad work (I normally use dedicated bag gloves for bag work). But I sweat A LOT, and that takes toll on leather. My sparring partner uses R2C gloves for all his training, including working the bag, and his are as good as new, as he sweats much less. Other gloves I tried and kinda liked are Hayabusa T3, and some Ringside's sparring gloves. I think Fairtex gloves are quite good, but their padding is not on pair with R2C's one. In some Fairtex gloves it too hard, in some - too soft. Also, some Fairtex gloves can feel very tight/small initially. Many ppl like Twins, I tried them in the shop - the padding is ok, but they feel too bulky and I couldn't form a proper fist in them. BTW, after I kneaded my Rival RS11V with my knees for about an hour or so, they became a bit softer, and don't hurt as much as in the beginning, but I still don't have enough room in them with my wraps on, and, IMO, they are still too hard for sparring, despite softening up for quite a bit. I heard that Rival RS10v optima are significantly larger and the padding may be a bit softer, but I haven't try them myself.

Me personally I prefer these to the T3s yes. Both are still great. You may find it a little hard to open the palm up initially with these gloves for catching kicks in Muay Thai since they are boxing gloves. But over time it gets better. Theres a bunch of guys at the gym I go to who uses Rivla Boxing gloves for Muay Thai & Boxing. They love it!

Hi, thank you for this great review! I am considering to purchase a pair of RS11V or RS2V for sparring mainly, would you recommend 16Oz at least or 14 Oz is already enough? My weight is 72kg. And would you have some comment on RS2V2.0 too? Thank you!

Thank you! I would recommend 16oz honestly some people say anyone under 145lbs should use 14oz but in my opinion 16 oz is always the way to go. Unless you're like.. 100 pounds. In that case you would probably be a youth lol

Definitely go 16oz remember to do 20 or so rounds on bags and/or focus mitts to break in the padding before you spar with them. Because the padding is a bit stiff out of the bag

Nice Review ! Can I use this as Bag Gloves as well ? I want this gloves and want to do both with them !
@andytieu604
@andytieu604 5 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, yes you can use this for bag and sparring. Its recommended to break in the gloves on the heavy bag and on the mitts for 20 or so rounds yo soften up the padding before sparring. So theres that. The only con in using 1 pair of glove for both bag and sparring is that the foam will degrade faster since the heavy bag is dense and can decrease longevity of your gloves. I use to use 1 pair for both. I'm fortunate now to have the luxury of choice. 🙂

Andy Tieu 604 I was just curious because you gave the gloves a good review despite the padding being too dense to sparr in? That should be like the main priority in a sparring glove shouldn’t it? Or did you just mean that you don’t do any ‘hard’ sparring in them? And that it’s still ok to go light with them? I’m just curious because I want to get a pair of rival sparring gloves but I’m a little reluctant now after hearing that the padding may be too dense to spar with. Also, did you ever hit the bag with them to work the padding in? Anyways, great review! Those windys actually looked like pretty decent sparring gloves too, I have never heard of them

How would you compare them to Powerlocks in terms of 1) fit 2) Snap bounce “pop” on the mitts
@andytieu604
@andytieu604 4 жыл бұрын
I've never tried Everlasts Powerlocks but these gloves.. to steal Russ Anbers term "fit like a pair of slippers" very very comfy fit. Your hands feel extremely secure even without wraps. And the snap is good. I would say something like my Fairtex genuine leather gloves provides slightly better "pop" but no where near the same hand and knuckle protection.

Hey thanks! I don't own a pair of T3's but I have worn th before. They are super comfry gloves also! Hayabusa makes great gear. With that said I prefer these from Rival for sure. Better wrist support and less bulky in the wrist area. I love them!

@@Warriordad808 i own 16oz t3s. I find they are too bulky as a sparring glove. All the extra padding all over makes it a really big glove. Albeit, I am only 140 lbs 5'5 so 16s are usually pretty big on me but it's what I've been brought up on so I always go 16 oz. These rival gloves are on the way in 14 oz, mainly for pad work and light sparring with my friends, but I also got a pair of RS100 sparring lace up gloves in 16oz so I don't get yelled at by my boxing coach haha

@@lukphom3727 They are holding up great! The padding has softened up a bit. Which my sparring partners are happy about lol but still great protection. They can definitely handle the heavy bag. However if you have the budget for it I'd recommend getting these gloves along eith Rivals RB50 bag gloves. They are a treat to use. Great feed back on the pads and literally made for the heavy bag. Heres my review on them if you want to check them out. Not expensive either in my opinion for the value! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKbcm5-JabiqgrM

After a while they go from firm/medium density to just medium density I'd say. If you got a new pair I'd say break them in with 15-30 rounds on the pad and you should be good. (Depending on how hard you go ofcourse)

Is it more weighted on the front of the glove or more in the wrist? Hayabusa was too heavy on the wrist so it is great for kickboxing and bag, but these rivals, are they more like Reyes where the weight is more in the first or other way around. Because I am looking for a glove which is the combination of Reyes and Hayabusa, I love the latex bouncy foam of Reyes and Wrist lock of Hayabusa. So can you say these rivals are the best of both worlds for me ?
@andytieu604
@andytieu604 4 жыл бұрын
Hey man great question! I haven't tried Reyes gloves. But the leather here is a synthetic leather. The weight and feel for me is incredibly balanced. I have tried on the Hayabusas and understand what you mean I suggest ordering a pairnfrom Rival and worse case you probably could always return them. But I love these gloves. I am considering buying a secknd pair.

Andy Tieu 604 Bro is it compact? Like I love the fit of Powerlock and I just got a Powerlock but I am not sure if I would feel the snap sound “pop” How is this one in terms of compactness so hands don’t move inside plus the connection with bag, do you get more of a pop like MX provides?
