You are not wrong, the difference is that Giannakis was a product of the Greek basketball process, whereas Galis was not. Galis was a product of the American basketball process, he could not even speak greek when he first came. Moreover Giannakis, who arguably is a living legend, had a role in both teams, so there was noone better to talk about this rivalry

Without Galis, there is no Greek basketball in its current form. Because he got people in Greece to care enough to invest loads of money. That simple. Giannakis, although a big scorer, and a huge player, one of the best of all time, and indeed born in Greece, in Piraeus's Nikea, wasn't at that level. He was something like what Pippen was to Jordan. All-time Great, but seemed secondary, next to a God.

9:13 Bartzokas using the old narrative about working class and aristocrats which is often told to raise sympathetic feelings for the one side which is portreyed as the good, honest and simple people against the arrogant and spoilt rich ones. The people of Athens who were supporters of Panathinaicos were thousands since the beginning of the club and of course there were working class people and worked side by side and on the same establishments with those of Olympiakos. A simple look into the history of the city of Athens can verify that its citizens were nowhere near beeing described as aristocrats but lived simple lives working day by day in order to make a living like anyone else.

I mean last year this very team of Panathinaikos with Ataman, Sloukas, Lessort etc utterly dominated Olympiakos and the entire Europe winning both the domestic championship and the European championship. ethnikos represented the aristocrats of piraeus, that's why the fanbase of ethnikos (less of 100 people) is at kastela which is a rich area of piraeus. Olympiacos had supporters all over piraeus and through the years and his triumphs created fans all over athens and greece, but the first fanatic supporters were from the working class suburbs of piraeus (maniatika, kaminia, kokkinia etc). thats something widely known it's not only the opinion of bartzokas. the firsts leaders of olympiacos were andrianopouloi. they were not ship owners. the first ship owner of olympiacos came decates after. ethnikos has no istory to steal. ethnikoulis is an ant.

Very nice documentary, even though coach Bartzokas tried hard to ruin it with completely unhistorical and unfounded claims. Both teams were supported by working class and the reference to the Aristicrats of Athens only stands as a joke. Moreover, if there was one team that traditionally had the support of rich people, this was Olympiakoswhich always had the financial support of wealth shipowners and merchants.
