The thing about that hinge (or in the original game: crawling under the door which also was a facepalm moment) is that this place is not a puzzle, I mean in universe it's a safety that is only passable with the butthole key for a purpose. It's not meant to have a solution without the key by whoever built it, so you needed to find a flaw in the system, which that rickety door was. You just did not look at the door much, There was dagger identical to the one used to lock the lever, at the door, precisely to say "look closer at the door" ;) Forget about game design, this place is not about puzzles, it's about what exists and why, and how to break it/reach it/understand it/exploit it .. and yet I totally understand your frustration x) Welcome to Riven

Myst is different than most puzzle games, the story and the solution to puzzles sort of flow together. It's not really the type of game that can work if you want to blow off the story, you'll just end up needing to look up all the solutions.

I remember this game being in life action and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Also, I played this game for three days then took It back to Best Buy 😅

Being completely uninterested in the story is going to be detrimental to your ability to solve the puzzles
