It will work, but it depends on the crank you use and the chain ring configuration to work out whether the chain line will be any good.

Great video 🤗 I have a Susie in XL on the way to me in Norway. I am very interested in hearing your experience with the short stem on the Susie. I was thinking the same thing, and your opinion would be helpful. I am 191cm tall, by the way. Very inspiring build video 🙏🏻

Thanks! The Stem length depends a lot on your Handlebar choice. I am 187cm with a PBH of 90. The Susie is designed for swept back bars but I wanted something a lot more straight for the sort of riding I had intended for this bike. If you were to use this exact setup you could probably get away with a 50mm stem. The estimated Top tube length for this bike is 68.5 but it has converging head and seat tube angles which means the bars aren't going to be as far away as you might expect, depending on how high you want to run them. Which bar are you intending to use? What sort of reach and how upright do you like? There are too many variables to cover in a youtube comment, sorry. Enjoy your Susie, it is an excellent bicycle!

@@brendonoid6133 Thanks a lot :) I am prepared to experiment a bit with fit. I was just wondering how your setup affected the steering feeling, and how you feel that a shorter stem and straighter bar makes the bike ride. I am looking at Crust Harvey Mushman bar and Tumbleweed Persuader bar. 24 and 30 dgr backsweep. Maybe even a Tosco bar to try out that «cruiser style» ;) I am coming from a Santa Cruz Sigmata gravel bike and a Santa Cruz Hightower, so I am obviously looking for something different than that. More upright, but not leaning backwards, he, he. Thanks again! I will watch out for more videos from you :)

@@geirnordheim6986 With the longstay Rivendells I have found that the grip area at or behind the steering axis makes for the best ride. I landed on this particular setup for this reason. I was able to maintain the ride characteristics I knew I would like but still enjoy the playful control of a flatbar. It works really well.

@@brendonoid6133 Thanks a lot! I got my Susie frame on friday. Beautiful! …and I think I will try it with the same stem as you, and then try a few bars to tune in the geometry. First the Crust Harvey Mushman bar or the Tumbleweed Persuader. I am willing to experiment, and I guess I have to ;-)

Great looking bike! Grease on square taper cranks? Not too sure I've ever seen that before.

I have destroyed a few cranks extracting the threads instead of the crank arm because galvanic corrosion is a bastard. A little bit of grease and a torque wrench is best practice but I know that this is a hotly debated topic amongst fellow internet bike nerds!

I so agree on that name! I don't have a Susie, but I would be so annoyed with a great name on one side, and a weird AF name on the other. I did something similar with my Clem, covered up the Smith JR part with a sticker that says Clementine. Lots of fun bits on this build though, love it!
