I met Bill twice walking this veil of tears. He was a genteel, talented man. I am saddened to discover the world is a bit more cynical and less honest and beautiful with his passing. RIP, Mr. Staines.

So sad to hear of the passing of Bill Staines. We all could use more gentle souls in today's difficult times. His music and love of life will be a part of me forever.

One of the most beautiful songs you've ever composed my friend Bill. I've just done a rendition for it in Portuguese, my native language.and I intend to have it included in my next album "Das bandas do Paranaiba" to be released next year in a non commercial record. As the days go by I grow older and older yet being your ardorous admirer. May God bless you with health, love and music. Here's thinking of you taquinho noronha

His gentle reflective lyrics and memorable melodies marked him as an outstanding songwriter! A talented troubador who unfailingly delivered warmly engaging performances ...funny and friendly, with a lilting voice, and skillful guitar playing. You could instantly lose yourself in the colorfully described characters, scenes, and stories in his songs. In Club 47 in Harvard Square, or on the stage at the Esplanade on July 4th, 1976 for the Bicentennial, he sang his beautiful ballads, and yes, also included authentic Country yodeling when called for. Art Tebbetts paid tribute to Bill from the stage at the recent New Bedford Folk Festival. Thanks for your music, Bill, and Rest in Peace!
