We've been doing this trip for the past few years now and it's always come with some apprehension. We felt like rookies, still figuring things out. Taking your whole family this far into the remote wilderness requires some forethought and planning. This year was a bit different, Jess and I seem to have a new sense of confidence when it came to the river trip and we were both excited starting preparations a month in advance, Jess was shopping to get some gear tuned in. I bought a little 4 x 8 trailer and modified it to carry the boats.
Getting there is a pretty big day, almost six hours of driving. Two and a half to get to the put in and another three to shuttle vehicles to the take out. The trailer worked great, easy to load, down out of the wind and light weight. It was a good day, we celebrated my birthday at the park that evening.
The next morning we woke up and everything about our life was different. We were on this slow moving, peaceful river watching the ever changing scenery drift past, observing natures wonder through all our senses. No more smart phones to keep us continually distracted. We were all living in reality together, remembering that we can entertain and enjoy each other and that "just being" somewhere this nice can feel really good!
The first day was a long one, we missed our intended campsite and ended up on the river for thirty one miles. We decided to cash in our hard work by staying two nights. It was perfect! The kids really let go, at times we would look around finding them contently playing different games that they had made up using what they had found lying around rather than pulling at our sleeves saying "I'm bored" (like at home).
This extra time in one spot allowed me some "wander" time which was awesome! I hiked to the far canyon and found "The Sidewalk In The Sky" It's was interesting (and nice) to see how pristine and untouched this canyon was being not so very far away from a heavily used campsite.
The rest of the trip just got better and better! The canyon walls got taller and more red. We really enjoyed the good food, good friends and some of the most epic beauty nature has to offer!
Interested in the camp cooking gear I use in my video's? I'm an inventor who loves to camp & cook over a wood flame. I make (and source) awesome gear that works best for my style of camping which includes mountain backpacking, family camping and overland camping. Something for everyone. please check out my website: www.fireboxsto... Thanks for your support!

Not sure if I’ve missed the video with the explanation... why the four drill holes on the billy can lid? I do remember a different one with three, two for a spit setup and the third for thermometer/prove

Those holes are just remnants of past experiments I've done , testing ideas that haven't panned out but I just keep using the lid that way.

Awesome again! Canoes are my thing so I'm loving this one! I'd really like a "in real-time" coffee time edit so I can have my coffee with you where you are and fixate on those views from my office.

Are you on the Green River? Does a Furebox stove meet NPS requirements for a firepan? The Green River is on my list.

You have to check with local forest stations, it is a wood fire so sparks are a thing but with the other fuel options you can usually still use it. Just depends on the place. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing! I noticed you were using some sort of charred wood. Was that made, and if so, any pointers how I can prep a bunch? As always, outstanding products.. my pantry is looking like yours; minus the titanium nano (which is next).😊
