Just done 7 hours on the dearne, between broomhill and bolton, managed a 5lb chub, found it to be a bit too clear, going to try the don at Doncaster next time out I think, still trying to catch my first wild barbel.

5lb is a nice chub 👍🏻

There used to be loads of barbel up this end of the dearne (barugh green), the fishing was easy going and you could be confident of a good catch if you knew where to fish, I've had my personal best from out of a larger bend in the river near my house 9,1/2lb. Sadly though I haven't had a barbel out of this stretch in over five years. I've walked the length of river from barugh green to just before Darfield where the river turns private and had monster chub out and some huge grayling (honestly I didn't think they got so big). I think I'm going to have to pack the car up and try farther afield, baton upon dearne isn't far and I'm going to try the Don near sprotbrough falls. Hopefully get the fix I need. Thanks for the videos, love watching them, especially when I come home with no catches, gives me hope 😂 haha

Probably need to try lower stretches of dearne. Mill lane at barnburgh is a good place to start, take car through gate you can park next to river and its quite deep between row of trees usually up to 6ft. Gate at top of track on mill lane is locked during darkness. Thanks for watching video's

Another great upload well done Russ I keep looking for your car parked up at Darfield then eagerly await an upload of your fishing adventures well done. Also have you fished nearest to the bridge at Darfield since the work to the banking has been done just wondered if it had killed the fishing off there.

Thanks craig, I've only had a few casts near bridge once spinning but should have settled down and be ok now.

Sorry for late reply only just come across yours and a few other comments i’ve not replied to. Its now been about five years since i fished the dearne for barbel and chub but seen plenty of anglers fishing the darfield stretch so wondered if you had any luck with your fishing ?.

just a quick one can you get away with fishing a float on that stretch of the dearne and use baits such as hot dogs for barbel and if so how deep is it .
@ukfishingvlog7 жыл бұрын
Yes i've fished with stick and loafer floats on this stretch but not for barbel. Depth is usually between 1ft -2ft deep with a few slightly deeper holes. I would recommend luncheon meat or pellet but anythings worth a try.

I always stick float for chub at Broomhill when the streamer weeds gone in winter, not stuffed with fish the Dearne, you go through the motions feeding maggots for an hour or more, then you hit one, 2, 3 or 4 lb, then another 2 hours........ You get so used to the float not going under, when it does, you struggle to compute what's going on.........strike! If you catch 2 or 3 fish all day, you've done well. You can tell it's not stuffed with fish because there is never anyone on and there is no wear on the banks, every year I go beforehand and cut the nettles down on my peg. Never had a barbel or hit one.

Hi, i’ve had two lure sessions recently at broomhill for pike didn’t even get a knock but noticed most of the pegs i used to fish for barbel and chub overgrown.
@richardburns59252 жыл бұрын
@@ukfishingvlog yes, all overgrown, it's similar to the Rother the Dearne, some swims look fishy as hell but are completely barren. What concerns me is I've never caught any other fish apart from one brown trout, always older biggish chub, no small ones, that's a worry, feeding steady for hours for one fish, 3 fish is a good day.......I've fished it in perfect conditions and been waterlicked odd time or two!

Hi Russ. Love your videos! Do you pay the dearne much attention now a days? I've recently moved to Barnsley and trying to find some descents spots close to home rather than driving to North Yorkshire or the trent!
@ukfishingvlog4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ryan. I've not fished the dearne for about three years but found its not stuffed with fish so the best way of fishing it is to travel light and rove around. If its barbel your after then the best method is fish a peg for twenty minutes and move to the next and so on. I found the first three hours of darkness most productive. There are some carp which found their way into the dearne from local still waters during 2007 floods a few twenty pound plus if you can find them.

@@ukfishingvlog cheers Russ, yeah it is barbel, I've been walking down the river during closed season and have seen a few Barbel but the access isn't great... it's a shame! Do you mainly go to Trent now?

cheers will try it was going to pop down for a few hours monday

Good video but why do you have your rods pointing at the sky on such a small river - it can't give any advantage (as it would in the Tidal Trent, for example) and surely gives you a sore neck? I fish with my tip just above the water so more line is on the river bed. Not criticising, just curious.
@ukfishingvlog7 жыл бұрын
Cheers, using a twin tripod means I have to point both rods up or low down, if my rod was low down straight across river I wouldn't see a bite also the peg I fished is very snaggy with rocks so a line layed on river bed would be a bad choice.. As for sore neck my chair is tilted back for maximum comfort. Appreciate your queery good point.
@RichardParsons657 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering - yes, understand all your points and rods up makes sense in the circumstances. Good luck for the rest of the season! I fish the Goyt (Stockport) and the Dove (in Derbyshire). Had a day on the Swale last October and caught one first cast. The rest of the day was sweltering, but my first experience of a Yorks river.

Is the dearne free fishing ?
@ukfishingvlog7 жыл бұрын
Most of dearne is free fishing, wakefield have a stretch on their book but definitely free fishing from millers pub at low barugh all the way down river until it runs into the don.
