@NATTUD5 жыл бұрын
You should do a video for the beginners on how to identify birds in the air. Like certain traits you can see from the ground so you know what birds you’re shooting.

Thank you, sir. I enjoy all sorts of guys on youtube but one thing I really appreciate about your videos is that they aren't all "rockstar" days on the water. We all get skunked once in a while (or lots in a while) but there is always something to learn. It's nice to see that even you guys out there doing this way more than a lot of us are getting skunked too.

I'm on the Famous Flint River and everything you talked about the river is so true here. Sun rises, hit and miss birds. Late season when everything else is ice was the best in years past. But a big change really hurt me. The water treatment plant let their holding ponds dry up, which used to hold a ton of birds which would fly by... they gone! Still gotta do it!

Bobby I found you this month here on youtube looking for calling and waterfowl videos. I have been a waterfowler in Texas my whole life, but several years ago Hurricane Ike blew thru S/E Texas and just wrecked our lease and hunting. Have not found a place to hunt since However, I got back into it this season and started hunting again. Your videos are so awesome. Killed a huge specklebelly yesterday for the last day of the season, and I am having it mounted. Thanks for all the adventures. It makes not hunting so long, not hurt so bad. Looking forward to next season.

You run into two issues one you can get the big strap weights, twist them into a 3/4 circle and they will hold the decoys into place, however the plastic decoys when you do this push a wake in front of them, the old Styrofoam painted gunners won't push the water so effectively your either blown out with plastic deaks when the water is pushing and have to stay close to the bank or drop a huge dime on pricy deaks and weigjts. Just something I've noticed from years of hunting rivers. I have three sets of duck decoys for the river, one for early season one for the migrators, and a set of foam gunners.

Hey Bobby, Love the channel! I do a lot of river hunting in South Western Ontario. We normal set up for a first light hunt along the river. Then when the action slows down we float quietly to the next concession and always get some ducks on the way out. We never hunt with a dog and the current is always strong. For that reason we normally only shoot when we know the birds will land on the shoreline. How do you retrieve your birds if they land in that current???

@mattbugg45685 жыл бұрын
Wow man you should come over to Colorado sometime and let me take you for a river hunt. Cause that flapper is drowning. You need a 6 foot pole and it's way to close to your decoys. It should be on the outside of your lane downriver 20 yards and your floaters should be up river 20 yards that way your in the landing hole. The way your set up is for cross traffic so unless the ducks are coming from behind you your crossed. Also shallow water is tempting but if you have a flow put on bigger weights they would rather land in chugging iced up decoys than around decoy lines and bases they can see.
@mattbugg45685 жыл бұрын
Also if you have to do a near side hunt make a strand of decoys with a v or j hook in the front along the side because the real ducks like to land behind the decoys and move into formation. It's not uncommon to let them land and swim through the decoys if other birds are flying.
@mattbugg45685 жыл бұрын
Also what I'd like to see is some really great duck slaying, on the river the blind was the business for your elevated position.

U wanna hunt rivers when everything else is frozen and the ducks have no where to go. I do phenomenal on certain rivers here in wa state. It’s really simple math honestly. We even whack em on a certain river when all things are not frozen. It’s all about finding the food for the ducks as well.

River hunts in the past were better and something has changed? I believe the shift in the magnetic poles (Magnetic North) has altered the migration pattern. I have a friend that works for AFA and he believes that these shifts certainlt effect the flight patterns of waterfowl.

Im not trying to be a dick, but you are calling at those birds like there are thousands of them. I hunt lots of rivers often, and what i have noticed is that single quacks and slow, realistic feed chuckles if at all do the trick. Just my two cents, keep up the good vids.

Back off the calling and do not take that many decoys. 1 dozen floater ducks. 6 full body ducks and 3 floater geese and 3 full body geese. Shut the mojo off once it gets their attention. The birds dont see that many birds at once on that small of a river at least from what I've seen from my experience and watching your river videos
