What places do you recommend to fish on the river irwell?

Burrs Country Park is good Springwater Park in Whitefield And any publicly accessible water in Salford There's great fishing to be had all over the Irwell system

Why no brown trout?

theres no shortage of brown trout in the Irwell - so no need to stock anymore..

@@fishing-fiend there's definitely less up here in the Bury area where I fish since the pollution incident. Or I'm just rubbish at catching lol.

no you are right --- there is also a lot less invertebrates for them to eat - so restocking trout into water thats not rich in natural food cant be a good plan...... the trout population is in recovery - along with the rest of the river...... that said - neighbouring rivers roch and croal have been fishing well so while everyone waits for the irwell to come back on form you can get your fix nearby

I think the big trout have migrated elsewhere cos it killed all the crayfish. The big ones got fat gorging on juvenile crayfish. This year I've seen good hatches large dark olives, blue wing olives and good grannom hatches as well. Things are looking positive for the future I think. I really hope we cross paths on the bank one day sir tight lines mate.
