Are the eels not legal to catch, mate? Might as well turn a nuisance into a bonus, if you're allowed! Smoked eel is frigging delicious, definitely in my top 5 of best eating fish.

I completely agree, smoked eel is awesome. The main problem is the eels pinch the bait and your not allowed to have a hook on the line when crayfishing

Not commercially viable, so they will be around for a long time.

Freshwater crayfish live in some fairly remote areas so the chances of fishing to extinction are extremely low. In 20 years of fishing for them I actually think the population has increased slightly. As long as people don’t exceed bag limits they will be around for a long time yet.
