I'm glad (I a way) you are showing the ribble is a premium river ,I mean nationally not just for us Northern monkeys iv even met a few southern softies and always have for years Scottish anglers have been down for a week at a time, over the 50years I helped as a kid unloading barbel illegally brought from the seven, luckily only fish that came out was on and around the old m6 bridge set up it was roach and dace nearly fighting for pegs but I learned don't push me around, fishing on the deck eels was on it and carp anglers soon drifted to carp waters leaving me and my cousin who lived in salmsbury village so holidays and weekends we were swimming in it learning its history of the big Manor houses were he worked with the otter hounds pack showing me photos going back between the wars, Oscar was is name and shown us areas old techniques for catching eels or keeping them out your swim ,earn money from other anglers, I was absolutely gutted some 10yrs ago in a nasty divorce the only time I've had the cash and wouldn't seem the same had a rod 2lb t/c called Oscar with it wrote just a he wrote Oscar, the things I lost in that divorce smashed or photos burned just no need for the river was once invaded by mink then cormorants and shown on your programme seals, I tell you it's not the odd one, anglers play he'll about poachers, a poacher wouldn't eat 10-15kg of bait A DAY, and a following programme you mention not as many big pike around lately, well a pike full of spawn wouldn't stand a chance, give me a poacher any day of the week over an otter, not being cruel if that was me with no witnesses around it wouldn't be eating any more freshwater fish anymore, treat it like a fox eating or damaging lambs or sheep, you can still kill them but not by use of dogs. Sorry Danny I've seen remains of specimen barbel, carp otters generally only eat the heads when full, its ot hard to tell if the gulls ,crows or any other predator soon gone or dragged away. The barbel numbers have gone down drastically from guaranteeing a couple of double a trip to scraping around or like anywhere paying through your teeth and waited years
