River used up most of his best rounds getting to the final, but River vs Hiss, River vs B-Art, and River vs FootboxG were all insane, definitely a difficult bracket to get to the finals, which is probably why he had to use a lot of his best routines earlier.

You guys are super valid in your reactions. Imo, this was the best matchup for a finals. I think River would’ve taken inertia had they met up on the other side of the bracket any how. However, inertia’s main downfall was fatigue due to how much he uses his inward base. And then also repetitive style. A lot of the melodic base and drops he used in the later rounds were recycled from his earlier performances, and the judges picked up on all that. River and colaps both came with a full slate of routines with a lot of variety and impecable technical ability. River and colaps actually also compete as a tag team group called rogue wave! When you get to the tag team stuff, you’ll really be able to see how well they compliment each other. Which made this solo final so much more special. Two brothers battling

Colaps came prepared for this event, he brought at least 6 new routines to the battle. All bangers. River wasn't really confident in his first round, there was some part that he did it freestyle. I suggest you to watch Colaps vs Zekka battles, it's lowkey the best battle of this event, it has everything you want to watch in a battle!❤

The fact is that finals will never be the best battles, because beatboxers drop all their best rounds earlier to have a chance to be in finals, so when they get there, the "weakest" rounds are the ones remaining. Colaps and River just destroyed that competition, and you should react to River vs Hiss, River vs B-art or Colaps vs Zekka to understand how good they are.

I think finals can be a mixed bag depending on how much they've saved for the end. On one hand you got kenny urban vs napom (2016) and napom vs hiss (2017) which are amazing and some of the best from their respective years, on the other hand you got d-low vs codfish (2018) where their best rounds were in semifinals and quarterfinals.

Finals are always hardest to bring the energy, just because its been a long few days, everyones tired. These two are also the best of friends. They have a tag team together called "Rogue Wave" (they competed this year) and honestly they dropped the craziest tag team round i have ever seen that year. So seeing them in the finals is like, the most wholesome outcome lol. French columbian gbb finals, it was so awesome. Also little tidbit, the snare colaps uses alot here stood out a lot. It hits like a truck and, while its not "new", he definitely mastered it and uses it effectively.

It was a great final and they both probably where the best artists throughout the tournament. It was just so difficult for them to battle each other as they’re brothers and know each other so well. They tag team together and practice together so knew each others talents, routines, strengths and weaknesses. For me Collaps was more prepared and more determined after some of his previous tournaments and losses and he had many routines, sounds and was totally prepared to take this tournament by storm, 👌 I think you should go and check out the SBX kickback battle now, start with the seeding round video - which I think has some absolutely amazing routines and then watch each round. Even though these are recorded battles there’s is still some great battle elements and counters within them. Look forward to seeing you react to them 👍

Finals aren't the best battles of the competition often times because many use their best routines/rounds earlier in the bracket to even progress. I suggest you watch some of River's earlier battles from GBB21. The one against Hiss was a banger as well :)

Sometimes in beatbox competition they used up all of their sounds in the early stages so when they finally reach the final stage they might run out of new sounds and ideas. Also to note they are best friends and tag team partner, they train together most of the times leading to GBB. U should watch their tag team battles, they are sick together.

Usually when you watch beatbox battles the best rounds are quarter finals and semi-finals because people want to advance no matter the cost. At the end they just do what little left they have. You can clearly see this with people like B Art or Penkyx back in the day. Everyone was terrified of this people on the first rounds.

So I'm sure you're getting tons of comments so you probably won't read this - but just as a perspective. These guys, over the course of the tournament had to do: 1. A 4 minute Elimination, just to qualify. 2. 1/8 Final, so the top 16 battling it out. 3. The 1/4 finals, where the top 8 battle it out. 4. The semi-finals, where the top 4 battle it out. 5. The finals, obviously where the top 2 battle it out. Each round is 1:30, and there's 2 rounds (mostly) - so that's 3 minutes a battle. So 4 minute elimination, 12 minutes of battle. Creating 16 minutes of hard hitting battle ready routines is CRAZY. This is JUST the Solo category - if you're in another category, there is different rounds requirements, structures, etc. So there's a strategy involved. Some like to go all out at the beginning to ensure they go further into the tournament, but this risks having no or less quality material left for the semi's, finals, etc. There's some that like to go lighter towards the beginning in hopes of saving their best for the end or for battles, but this risks having an early elimination and then you've just wasted the year preparing for battles you'll never get too. There are some who try to spread it out across the tournament, but if you meet someone going all out at the beginning or end, you'll be over powered by them (sometimes). This is all to say that yes, often times the finals are a bit "meh" compared to earlier rounds because many use their best routines just to get there. Even in loop stations, often time the Semi-Finals are the best rounds in the tournament.

King Inertia's problem was that he was recycling his pretty small palette of sounds throughout the tournament. If he comes back with more variety and better routines, he might win one day.

I think an important thing to remember is these guys come into these events with prepared routines and they have to carefully choose what routine to use against each opponent. Obviously there’s fillers, counters and just general freestyling they do that is also a massive part, but when they have perfected rounds that they have prepped, they can use them in the earlier battles in order to win and progress. I think this is shown in this battle where River absolutely snapped vs Hiss in the semi leading to his rounds in the Final being more off the cup and freestyle orientated. Another good example is Rythmind when he used two extremely good rounds in order to beat Brez, then he didn’t have as many rounds prepared in order to beat Frosty and he even chose not to use his rounds from the Small Final leading to Frostys win. River was definitely deserving of making the Final in my opinion and I hope you guys check out his semifinal against Hiss, it’s one of my favourite battles of all time. Love these reactions, always great hearing other perspectives on this craft!

The issue is not watching the order of how things happened. I suggest watching each category from round 1 through till the final so you can see everyone’s rounds and see how they bring back things from previous rounds and even see rounds better than you have seen later as contestants have used their best rounds to move up the ladder! King inertia was pretty strong but as someone who watched this for like 14 years, i can tell you the favourites to win the whole comp were definitely Colaps and River' and maybe footboxg as i was watching it live. It's hard to answer your questionning but indeed sometimes some quarter finals are better than some semis. But I wouldn't say that River isn't as good as King Inertia, it's about differences in style and the vibe you communicate to the crowd and judges in the moment

Colaps vs King Inertia was more hype because the competitors usually plan to use their strongest routines in the finals but sometimes they have to use it even earlier in order to get to the finals. Colaps faced Zekka in 1/4 which is my favourite battle on this gbb tho, and then he faced Inertia, that's why almost half of his second round was improvised. River was out of stuff too. I feel like 1/4s were even more hype than semi tbh

One need to watch the battles chronogically to understand the context. Inertia's bass surely rocked the scene early on, but he started to become a little repetitive in the latter rounds. Both River' and Inertia used their better routines in the earlier rounds. No one had any chance against Colaps that year anyway, he was over-prepared.

the person to go first in most battle sets the ton of the battle as they cannot really counter as much so they aim to gain more points towards musicality and structure. this is why rivers may not have seen as good as his other battles and shows why his second round was better. to go 1st in a battle is very hard and river done it really well but colaps played it really well in his 1st round too
