I wear a vest with an auto life jacket on the basis if I am incapacitated I do not have to grab the toggle. Touch wood I have not had to put it to the test yet.

If you learn to use an fg knot with risotto finish then it provides a stronger connection that you can make with a swivel, smaller, lighter, catches less weed

@@wye-fisher ah hi, since you replied. I'll get the vid links that I think work best. There are 3. My tips would be to do about 22 wraps Then do rizutto finish with 4 or 5 wraps. You don't have to wrap it tight, but if you don't you have to pay more attention to sinching it up after 10 or 12 turns and then again after 8 more or something like or you can end up with a slightly looser grip at one end. You don't have to do this knot under tension but I do I wrap the leader around the braid, this is easier with stiffer leader. With light lines like trout fishing you can't pull the braid as tight when wrapping as it will kink the leader. Under tension is also doable in the wind or on boat. The rizutto finish, although looks really complicated because the idea is new, is actually far faster to tie than the traditional overhand finishes, and they come loose. Mechanically the rizutto finish pulls both components of the knot together, its a genius way to do it.

I wasn't aware spinning for salmon was allowed on uk rivers. I thought it was fly only. Id love to spin for salmon

Yes you can spin for them in many UK rivers but each one will have it's own bylaws, (rules within that local area/water), and many more different rules for England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Your best bet would be to look at the Environment Agency website www.gov.uk/government/collections/local-fishing-byelaws And even then the owner of the fishery may also say what you can or cannot do, but he can't change the EA Rules! Confused yet?

Hello John, I dread to say it’s a McLean Weigh Net, and having just look at the all new “McLean Large Catch & Release HD Weigh Net” available on-line, I have to say it’s gone up in price a heck of a lot since I got mine… But then again it does go to show that the good stuff lasts for ages; mine has to be 8 years old as I got it after struggling to land a 42.5-inch Springer in April 2013! [Landed no more than 100m from where this video was taken]….. I like the new rubber mesh too so I think I may have to upgrade mine sometime.. Hope this help.
