Doyle has God given talent. I don't care how much you practice, he was born to play like this. You can't be that great without help from above.

I saw Doyle a few years ago at the Sonoma County guitar festival. He was playing a Taylor through a Rivera Sedona. The tone knocked me out! I asked him what kind of amp it was. He told me it was a brand new development from Rivera and that Paul Rivera was there. I went and spoke to Paul about the amp. When he explained all it would do, I had to have one. I ordered one the next day and still have it to this day. Wonderful amplifier.

how much did you pay x it, Gary? Thanks! Can you be specific with the model, or is it just Rivera Sedona?

I saw on video Doyle performance in London acustic show few days ago with his new beautiful soundy Olson guitar. Ha has two of them and reasonably he is very excited about them, I mean who wouldn't be, with guitars worth each 12,500$ at least. Olson is big name today, but seem to me that some songs like this one will never be overplayed and oversound with any big name new guitar eventhough Olson sounds perfect no doubt.. This song sounds perfect to, but on Taylor and that is it. There are many other songs like this one that will never sound better on any other guitar. Somehow I feel Taylor is just guitar for him. Doyle represented Taylor guitars over 10 years and probably he needed change which is absolutely normal thing to do. He sad once " guitar comes and go", and that is ok, he played Taylor then Guild for two three years and now he play's Olson. I mean everybody would occasionlay like to play different guitars if you are able to. You can like to play same songs on any other guitar but certain songs are just made to be played on specific guitars like this one Wabash Cannonball played on his signiture model Taylor DDSM and Country Fried Pickin, and of course many, many others like Amazing finger style Vol 1 played on 1994 Taylor XX-MC. 20th anniversary model . I am big Doyle's fan and this is only my opinion but I wanted to share it with you.

I'm thinking Doyle might just be the best at doing the whole thing...you know, getting the rhythm, melody, adding tasteful this and that here and there...I just found out about him yesterday...found one of his more affordable Taylor models that was made in Mexico on craigslist and I was like "well who is Doyle Dykes and how does that guitar sound? Man, I thought I'd seen it all, now I don't know if I ever will...in one of his videos he said the Holy Ghost revealed to him some of the techniques that he uses...and I can only conclude that he's telling the truth...

@johnjenkins288212 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I just checked this, haven't played it for a while, its an open G with 2nd string down to A. Fortunately most of these solo guitar songs have a harmonic in them somewhere which makes it a lot easier to figure out their open tuning. You could probably also play it with 3rd string as an F# but I think its easier to leave it a G.

I love this, I play (and teach) guitar so I know how hard it is. If you like it ,check out Martin Taylor or Stanley Jordan, they are more jazz than country, but they can both make one guitar sound like two or three,
@johnjenkins288212 жыл бұрын
Tuning is an open G with the 2nd string tuned down to A. This makes it an open Gsus tuning. I am fairly certain of this from playing the song, and also from watching him at the Taylor guitar clinics...he would always tell the same joke... "What is God's favorite chord? Gsus (Je-sus)" Get it?
