Now, THIS is what I've been looking for!! I'm making a simple wool pullover without pockets so far, but I decided to put two pockets in as an afterthought when the entire pullover is finished. Didn't know how I was going to do that, so I did a KZbin search, and.....VOILA! Here it is. 😁 Thanks so much!

I love that you found this helpful. I must give all the credit to Elizabeth Zimmerman (that's who "taught" me - through her books).

Thank you so much for this video! I've been searching for a while for an afterthought pocket that tucks inside, but most of the other videos just sew theirs onto the outside of the cardigan. Super clear and helpful!

Thank you for saying so! The original idea came from Elizabeth Zimmerman. I love this "tuck inside" pocket too.

I was looking for instructions for an afterthought pocket and came across yours, Cynthia. As soon as I found it I knew it would be easy to follow. You are a great teacher! This is the way I make socks but never thought of using the technique for a pocket! Thanks for the great tutorial. Now I need to knit a sweater so I can add pockets 😁

Excellent tutorial. I’m guessing it might not be quite as simple with fair isle stranded knitting though. I’m thinking of adding pockets to my Alice Starmore Oregon cardigan.
@Yarniversity4 жыл бұрын
You will have to be a little more careful in getting the yarn onto the needles correctly and paying attention to the strands. But you can do it! Practice on a swatch first.

Hi Leslie, thanks for the suggestion. If you'd like to learn to knit socks and need some help, I'd like to suggest a great book: "Get Started Knitting Socks" by Ann Budd. It's available everywhere and it is truly better than a video because she has taken excellent photos (that don't move!) to help you learn. Check it out; you'll be knitting socks in no time!

Beautiful instructions! I'm just curious as to why you knitted through the back loop...was there a specific reason or were my eyes playing tricks on me?
@Yarniversity3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Mary. Sometimes when you pick up stitches they get mounted "backwards". If you knit through the back loop, you don't have to remount the stitches to get them ready to work.

Would this work if I were to knit in a wide button hold as the hole for the pocket and create the liner from there? I'm hoping yo use this for a tooth fairy bag
@Yarniversity Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Sorry about the delay in replying. Hmmm. Do you want your tooth fairy bag to be a pocket? Or are you thinking more along the lines of a closed "packet" with a little opening in it to insert a tooth? If it's the latter, what about just knitting a rectangle and folding the shorter ends in, to overlap each other slightly and sewing it shut? That would be less complicated, I think?
