*'Heartland'* is the absolute standout track for me. Those spotlights....that big thumping beat....the ascending strings.....Jean & Colin dancing....and the final huge dance spectacular with all of the Irish dancers. Brilliantly dancing...flicking heads...shuffling feet...and all the rest! *WOW! It doesn't get much better than this!*

I'll be honest, my favorite version , is the original and not just because it was Michael Flatley but there were some pieces of music and dance segments that I loved in the original, that were taken out of this version. I'm still happy though, that Riverdance has stood the test of time and the feeling of being transported to a world where I can get away from the stresses of everyday life, never gets old. It was a bit eery seeing the World Trade Center Towers in the opening credits but shows like these, remind us, of the rich heritage of New York and America. Long live Riverdance. ❤️💜🥰🥰🥰

This version definitely feels more balanced than the original performance. It's fascinating to watch these back to back plus the documentary... it seems like, as amazing a dancer as he is, Michael Flatley was a bit of a narcissist, much of the original performance was his show whereas this show is about the whole troupe. Jean Butler seems more confident and powerful in this performance, and I like that both of them are up on stage when the curtain rises on the troupe at 1:25:58, whereas in the original it was just Flatley. I think really, what I love most about the 1995 version is the quality of the sound, the tapping in this version doesn't have as much of the lower frequency sound? The taps seem so high pitched and I can't really hear any of the stomps :(
@Pempel2000
@Pempel2000 3 ай бұрын
Really agree to that. The sound of the tapping is artificial. I think I remember they used a lot of pre-recorded tapping performances for this one. I read an article with the producer of the show, admitting to this. You can hear the difference quite well when you compare the part "Trading Taps" with all the group dancing parts. "Trading Taps" is what it sounds like, when you microphone taps on a stage live.
@firecatcher91
@firecatcher91 Ай бұрын
While I agree everything you said, the reason why the stomps were less powerful here was because the issue with the stage floor; it was so hard and many people complained about it before the opening night, at the rehearsals. The documentary tells more about it. The production team tried everything to add something beneath the foot work and amplify the sounds as best they could, but the stage wasn't flexible enough to produce those low stomp frequencies sufficient to be heard in the tv. Many of the audiences felt and heard it, but it doesn't carry enough through the stereo.

Of All versions this is the one that I preferred and also I like to call it my "Safe Place". First of all because is more balanced and the dancers were told to exagerate their movements so that the performance could be delivered for the people that were at the very top of the Radio City Music Hall seats. The additional choreography that Colin Dunne, Jean Butler, Mavis Ascott, María Pagés, The Moscow Folk Ballet and Tarik Winston made is the current escence of the Show along with Michael Flatley's original pieces. 1995 version at The Point was good also but Radio City Music Hall is the Best because it allowed for all the dancers, musicians and singers to Shine instead of focusing only in the Leads. This is want I want to see from Riverdance, although the current versions of the show are good they have shortened the crew and are starting to rely more on recordings and screen animated stagings that look great but made the people to focus less on the dance and the performers, same thing happened to Lord of the Dance and I believe that's why they are deciding to go back to the Feet of Flames format which in my opinion is 100 % better than the LOTD Point Theater version. I had this DVD signed by María Pagés, I met her with her own Flamenco company in 2006, unfortunaly a friend of mine lost the DVD a week after I gave it to him to watch it. You did an amazing work by uploading this remastered version. Thank you so much.

Outstanding dancing. But why continually change the camera angle? And showing waist-up shots of Irish dancing? I know they want the recording to be worse than the live show, but .....

Some welcome changes/addtions in the dancing and music compared to 1995. Where they really blew it is the camera work. This camera people can't focus on the image for 10 seconds, too many camera angles, too much zooming. These are dancers, not jetski commercials, slow down and let us see their dancing. Hire back the camera crew from 1995!

Maybe if I hadn't seen the original Riverdance i would have a different opinion, but with the Michael Flatley version as a benchmark, this version falls far short for me. The original had such a more light / joyful feel to it and Michael Flatley was always smiling. This version i feel like all of the dancers always look so serious (almost angry at times!) or concentrating so hard without that same effortless and joyful feeling the original had. And sorry but i had to skip past that death metal blue fiddle part... that's a solid no for me.
