Thanks for Sharing and inviting us to this session, virtually! @25:40 as you play your melody, give those first notes a slight attack or accent and play just slightly in front of the beat, but don't rush the tempo to get that "swing feel" Work to stay in the pocket and add volume dynamics. My dad doesn't know much about music, but when I used to play the piano, he always advised I "move a bit" instead of staying so still, as Eric does in this video. I believe it made a difference. You have to "feel" the music while playing; express with it.
@the5thYearSeniors4 жыл бұрын
He moves when he is performing. Practice is different. You are trying to isolate and focus in on specific aspects of your playing you want to improve upon. You should be as effifcent with any movements and those that don't add tp your technique and playing should be avoided if possible.

hi, i have a question, how can i tell what saxophone is playing in a tune? is it a tenor or an alto or soprano ? and what king of pitch is the saxophone I am hearing. because many times i can't figure out. i have an alto , the song perhaps sounds like an alto playing but i can't imitate the sound especially middle to high notes
@moremankey78944 жыл бұрын
A soprano is going to be the highest pitch by far, the alto will be half an octave deeper in pitch than a soprano and lastly a tenor will be a whole octave lower than the soprano and 1\2 octave lower than the alto. If you can’t tell from that than just listen to them and you will notice there is a very deep one that will be the Bari or tenor but most of the time it will be a tenor the alto does have less sound as well due to a smaller horn.
@moremankey78944 жыл бұрын
I realized my comment was not really related so to answer your question in order to tune your saxophone I heard just blowing in a b flat to warm up the horn than just blow in a f sharp without making sound for about a minute than it should be tuned
@yearning4humbleness5984 жыл бұрын
@@moremankey7894 that is interesting , i didn't really ask how to tune a saxophne but since you talked about it, is that concert b flat meaning C for tenor and G on an alto. and what is blowing on f sharp really is going to do , but as far as my question, it was if you hear a saxophone playing how can you tell if it is an alto like mine or a soprano even though both saxophones can play those note. so from there you can tell if you need to transpose the song or not to be able to play freely without notes sounding uneasy

The tenor saxophone is too heavy for the young lady and kills her neck and posture. Instead of a neck strap, she and other young tenor players should be using shoulder harness like (a) Jazzlab Sahophone Harness, (b) Marmaduke Feather IV Shoulder Strap, (c) Adorence Lengthened Saxophone Shoulder Strap, or similar.
@sebastiansprotte25514 жыл бұрын
This neostrap kills your neck. When you use a good strap and not one like this, which tends to stretch a little bit, it's better for the posture. But yeah, there are some very good alternatives, but they are very expensive..

Hey man, gotta seriously check your ears, she's good for being so young aged but... you gotta know one thing: the right sound with a saxophone might not be what you think you like. I saw some people got too much used to their wrong sound. Another EG: I sometimes really like the timber of some player but I would NEVER want to sound like them when I have my horn on! So, this makes sometimes difficult for anybody to distinguish a good sound maybe dirty but controlled, than one less dirt BUT less controlled or somehow faulty. It makes difficult to find your own right mouthpiece, then, beyond their cost. This because a sax is something you can play in thousands different ways and timbers and they can be all good or all wrong, or 50/50 and that will be even worse! Cos ears (that's your mind, then) can get used to errors or... Being not well in tune from birth! Saxophone Is a VERY maze of tricks for this. My HO
