He mentioned Tom wopat as a celebrity at the mall but I googled it and it said the Mall opened in 1971 but it looks awfully new to be that old .

@@Paul-ll9jc u are correct. The mall was open before that time Tom came. But they did a big renovation and celebrated a re-opening at the time Tom came. Mid 80’s.

@@Phanolars Thanks that makes sense. I'm 56 but I forgot what a big deal that would have been . I saw one of the biggest junk yards in the country on KZbin and they had an old charger painted as general Lee.

@@Paul-ll9jc oh wow. Really cool. I am a huge Dukes fan too. I attended a movie premeir at that rivergate 8 theater I mention at the end. It was hosted by John Schneider. I was gonna mention that and show pictures, but deceided not to include it.

The mall did open in 1971 but it was just one straight strip down the middle, with J.C.Penney's, Cain Sloan and Caster Knott as the anchors. The big new section with food court and where Sears was I think was built in the middle to late 90s.
