Focus Music: Uttley Lyrics: Biggs Thine eye be one, that blessed body full of light I’ve seen the restless innovation, but it doesn’t feel right My fingers have been itching, since I found out this prison of mine Is just some skin and hair, teeth and bones, a pair of eyes My body, my pride, once radiant inside I figured all this focus, had just been given to me So set in stone; intention, but this isn’t my decision to make I thought that all this purpose, was just mine to take I know the work you do so well, Yeah I can tell you’re keeping me down here with you In this chemical well My figure’s apparition I focus my addiction It’s such a shame… Such a shame. Who’s the king who wears the crown? Can you feel the channel changing? Who’s the king who wears the crown? No light, just horrible sounds The hollow voices carrying My body, my pride, my radiant insight I figured all this focus, had just been given to me So set in self derision, as I feel my vision slipping away I figured I was worthless, destined to wither away No way out/no sight/no ending There’s nothing quite like-pretending I’m here Constant pain inside; take the pill and swallow your pride Thine eye be one, her blessed body full of light I can’t believe the shakes she’s given me tonight Making mention Focus my intention We needn’t be afraid Do not be afraid My body, my pride, once radiant insight I figured all this focus, had just been given to me So set in stone; intention, but this isn’t my decision to make I thought that all this purpose, was just mine to take

Holy Father of fuck. This is going to be such a good album. Rivers of Nihil has been making huge leaps up my invisible list of favorite bands lately. First I discovered how good Monarchy is (fucking Suntold man. Go back and listen to it.), and now these two new releases. Mindboggling. They said they didn't want to just be known as just 'the band with the sax', and I think this is what success looks like. I have listened to Clean more than twice a day every day since it dropped. This is exactly the music we need for this last age of humanity, where we drug ourselves into a half conscious delirium just to bear the weight of stressful lives devoid of meaning. When millions of people are forced into the shape of living machines, this is the sound it makes. And as terrible a thing as it is, it is terribly beautiful as well.

It became my top album of the year, and I still listened to it repeatedly well into 2019. These two new songs don't grab me immediately like I thought they would, but they definitely aren't bad. Yeah i feel you bro. I dont want to sit here and shit on them cause I love them and I dont think their new material is bad or anything, but I got into their last 3 albums for their technical/melodic/progressive aspects, compared to the new singles theyve been releasing its just kind of a droning and boringly long listen for me. I think to me the new stuff has alot of heavy moodiness and vibe to it, but just lacks anything to hold my interest or something to make it special. Ill give the whole album a listen when it comes out though, cause having the full picture could change my mind. Btw anyone reading this if you like the music, good, Im happy for the bands success this just isnt really my cup of tea

Honestly, yeah. I can't say I'm too excited about these two new songs. It's hard for me to say shit about them, since I consider Rivers to be my favourite band of all time, but I feel like the new songs lack something. I like the atmosphere of Clean, but it's a little too long and repetitive for me (in comparison with Owls or Subtle Change - equally as long, but always evolving to new places within one song), and Focus sorta falls into the same problem for me, except that I really don't enjoy it at all (Clean at least has that bridge part and an amazing solo). May be that I'll grow into it, with a few more listens. As a lot of people said, I don't want this to be Owls pt. 2. But I also still remember how I felt when I finished that fucking Owls song for the first time and it changed my life completely. I hope they manage to capture that feeling again.

Powerful track. I agree with both people complaining and amazed by this - it's definitely different. It's much much darker. I'd call it "depressive" technical death, while previous works were just extremely well-executed technical death (with sometimes jazzy influences). And this time, it's a lot of djent riffs, clean singing being as ambience in chorus.... it's complex, yet heavy and depressing. And I love it. But I feel like not everyone will love it too.
