Please do Archspire next! Along with Rivers of Nihil, they may be the most exciting band in metal today. It may not be the most "enjoyable" listen on the first go (even took me a while to get into it) but you'll definitely find loads of unique stuff to break down. Bleed the Future is my favourite of their new songs, so that's my pick :)

Think of Nihil like Nihilism (similar to Nile). The cool thing about this song is the album basically builds up to it. So it’s a half hour of a journey to this moment.
@Earthgazer

Hmm. Now I'm curious. Most philosophers I've ever heard pronounce it 'nee-hill' or 'nee-yill' when discussing the concept. Very different to when discussing the entire philosophy of nihil-ism. But I'm American, so now I'm wondering where it's common to pronounce it like "Nile".

@@Earthgazer I’m American too and I’ve only heard it pronounced like nai-uh-lism. But I also don’t interact with many philosophers so it may just be a common error. I’m pretty sure the band pronounces it that way though

sounds like they picked up some post rock influence on the new album, a lot of the tone in this song reminds me of hubris or april rain

Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the latest Blue Oyster Cult album The Symbol Remains. Great stuff from a classic band, with some great recording/engineering by Richie Castellano. Great writing and as always with BOC, great playing. So many great tracks it's really hard to pick, but start with first three tracks and what you think. Rich the Ancient Metal Beast

Great analysis...For some reason in this album which I enjoy btw, i have to say though that I struggle a bit with some production choices, especially drums sound, which sound for me a bit synthetic/plastic/tight/restrained/compressed (? not sure of the technical term, sorry) compared to previous album....At times I really see here for the first time another band's influence, MECHINA, for which I also have a big respect for their versatility & fusion of genres but also their unique "space saga" ambiances they know how to create...(check out for instance the 10 first minutes of the album "As Embers Turns to Dust"). Cheers !

@GhostShelter Subtle Change is probably my favorite RoN song! The sax solo in that one just hits different than all the rest 😌

@GhostShelter Completely agree! The Work has a couple songs that are almost on the same level, but nothing really touches Subtle Change. It instantly struck a chord with me the first time I listened through WOKMN.
