The MV is said to be a tribute for the victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy. Presenting the pain of survivors, the guilt feeling it's them who survived, instead of their friends. *The abandoned clothes in the train. The yellow ribbons. The writing "You Never Walk Alone" on the playground above Jungkook's head. The laundry. The shoes Jimin is holding, shoes taken off usually before suicide in Asia. The pile of clothes. Omelas, a train like in Snowpiercer. Taehyung listening to the rails. Jin capturing memories into the sepia filter.* It aslo seems like Jungkook's character has commited suicide. South Korea is facing the problem of great amount of suicides, especially among young people. The song is still charting very high in Korea, after 28 months. It's healing people. The music video is loaded with symbolism. It's truly heartbreaking but reviving to watch it sometimes

I believe this theory too. Have you seen this video by an Italian ARMY? (It's *not* the one everyone reacts to on KZbin.) Monroe, your reaction is a pretty universal reaction to Spring Day. I think BTS is one of those musicians that really know how to make 'HAPPY-SAD' songs. Through their own experience also their culture - they understand that life is always a delicate mixture of both things: every happiness is ushered with grief & sadness always has an underlay of hope. I find this Confucius, almost Buddhist-like approach to songwriting to be very potent. Especially in modern music market that's riddled with impersonal and gimmicky sex/anger/bragging songs.

I feel like Zak has pretty much got the meaning of this video spot on. Really, it's about growing up and growing apart and moving on. The video follows a few members but for the most part, we stick in Jungkook's shoes as he rides this train and relives his memories. A train is an apt metaphor for growing up. Once you're on the train, you can't make the train stop at any specific time you want - you have to keep going, keep going forward. And a train only has specific stops, so it can't make the turns that, perhaps, you'd like it to. You just have to go with the flow. In the video, Jungkook reminisces about the happy times spent together with all of his friends. Zak is right in seeing that, when they're alone, they're sad - it's only together that they seem bright and positive. Long story short, by the end, Jungkook realizes that he must continue on, with the memories and the strength that his friends gave him in his heart. In that way, they're still with him. The lyrics do play a part of things too. In the beginning, RM mentions hating the person being spoken about in the song. But he also mentions missing them, and that that makes him hate them more. This is that fresh bitterness at the end of a friendship. It's easier to hate the person than to feel sad. Later, when we get to Yoongi's verse, he mentions that he wishes that he could just forget the person instead, because he knows that he could never really hate them. So there's been time passing and growth made there. Finally, at the end of the song, the boys sing about maybe meeting that person again someday, but sort of wishing them well until that time comes. The song follows the whole mourning and recovery process for a lost friendship. It's really very pretty. At the end of the video, Jimin takes the shoes that he's been carrying around all video and throws them over a tree branch. It's a monument to the lost friendship. For the rest of the video, Jimin has been bringing the shoes everywhere and looking forlorn. It represents the weight and pain of the lost friendship weighing him down and following him everywhere. By the end, though he seems scared and sad about it too, he frees himself of that by leaving the shoes in the tree, effectively moving on, but keeping his treasured memories safe in his heart, still cherishing them. Edit: Ah, I see from reaching the end of the video that Monroe got it too! Awesome. I love seeing this song and video appreciated. It's so, so important.

I think it's worth noting that it is the fans, not BTS, who made connections between the Spring Day MV and the Sewol ferry disaster. The only time BTS mentioned it is here: "Rap Monster also explained, "I did read a post that said the music video of "Spring Day" reminded them of Sewol Ferry Tragedy. As for the music video of "Spring Day", every viewer can have a different interpretation of the music or the music video because it depends on their mind so we wish to leave this open."" I'm personally uncomfortable with the way fans tend to talk about it like it's a confirmed and intentional connection. The speculation and insistence often feels very disrespectful. I thought I could watch this with you guys after so many times and after so long without crying, but nope! This is my favorite BTS song. When it came out I had just lost my best friend of 17 years, my chocolate lab sophie. This song helped me get through the deep grief of her passing and reminded me that it was ok not to be ok and to talk to people about it and share her beautiful memories to keep her always with me. I'll always be grateful to BTS for this song and it's one of the reasons I'll always be an ARMY. Thanks for the reaction. 💜 I hope you'll watch the live performance of this with the dance. Spring day is one of (if not the most) my favorite songs by BTS ever. This song is so touching and emotional like since it released 2017 till this day i feel so many emotions every time I listen to it, it really never gets old to me (and apparently to most ppl since it never left the korean charts and its the most song stayed in charts in korea)

As you knew, 'Spring Day' is a song with many stories. In Korea, there was a tragedy called the Sewol Ferry incident in 2014, and nearly 300 adolescents were buried in the sea. The cause of the accident was corruption and the government officials who aided him, which led to a dismantling civil revolution. 'Spring Day' is a song dedicated to commemorating and paying tribute to the youths who died innocently.

This is the song that brought tears to my eyes the moment i heard it the first time (ps. not knowing the lyrics at all) and it made me even more emotional when i watched and learned the meaning behind this song. Its a masterpiece.

It is heavily believed that this has some connection with the Sewol Ferry tragedy in Korea last 2014 where numerous teenage students were killed. 2. Omelas (the hotel’s name in this vid) is a place from a fictional book where everyone lives in this utopia in expense of a single child receiving all the misery of that city. 3. Jimin picked up a pair of sneakers in one scene which was then hanging in the tree by the end of the video. Some places signifies shoes tied together hanging on a tree as someone has died. Incidentally, with the Sewol Ferry tragedy, loads of relatives of the deceased victims left shoes on the shore. 4. There was a scene where Jungkook was standing still infront of a ride while numerous ghost like movements are happening, he eventually joined them. There was a teacher who was saved from the tragedy but later on committed suicide hoping he would still be able to guide his students in the after life. 5. There was a scene where clothes was in a washing machine tumbling then a pile of them was seen. I believe them as the body of those victims during the capsizing of the ship until hundreds of dead bodies piled. These are few of the fan theories plus mine. This video shows how people find it hard to move on from something, the struggles. Probably that’s why Monroe can’t exactly pin point it and got emotional.

This song is the queen. No meter how many songs BTS ad we always come back to her. It’s really impressive, we talked about it sometimes. It's one of my favourite BTS music videos because of how layered it is, with the song and the aesthetics and symbolism to every single detail of each shot. In Spring Day, shoes that are tied to a tree signifies that a person has died. Theories have stated that Spring Day was a tribute to the 2014 MV Sewol tragedy. As the shoes were tied to a tree, meaning that someone has died, and the Spring Day has started at the end of the day, just makes me thank that a life has ended, but a new life has been born.
