Mamamoo is known as a group with very strong and powerful vocals. In Korea, they dont consider 'idols' as singers because they have a differentation between idols and singers. They think idols cannot sing and they're just purely visuals and dance but Mamamoo was the first group that broke that kind of thinking or stereotype.

I wouldn’t say they’re the first idols to break that stereotype, it was more when idols like B1A4/Sandeul and other idols started going on shows like Immortal Songs that you started hearing people talk about how that stereotype isn’t true. But Mamamoo has definitely played a big part in that as well!

The song probably reminds you of Prayer in C - but it's not sampled, it does use same/similar instrumentation as well as chord progression. Melodies and overall structure are different though. Just some background information: Mamamoo are largely known and are popular for their strong performance/stage presence and vocals , as well, they usually don't stick to one concept and are always branching out and exploring different genres. Their song, "Paint Me" (recommend!) was the introduction to their 4 seasons 4 colors project this year, where they are releasing a new album revolving around each season; a color representing each member. This one was from their Spring album, "Yellow Flower" - and they recently released a new one called "Red Moon" - With their title track "Egotistic". I hope you check out more of their music :)

'MAMA' means mother. So it means that we want to approach our listeners organically and instinctively with our music." and then the "moo" part means radish in Korean (무; mu) so you'll see fans wearing radish masks at their concerts (a little low key creepy lol). You should see their introduction too! All K-Pop groups have introductions and theirs is one of my favourites! In my opinion, Mamamoo is THEE BEST female kpop vocal group right now. They are not the typical kpop group, they are considered more as a group comprised of 4 artists than just a pop group. They don’t stick to one genre, they try different ones because they have the talent and the pipes. Please do check out their other songs. Something about Mamamoo that I don't know if you guys know is that they write their own lyrics, they also help produce the songs, they also most of the time choreograph their dances and I know hwasa also helps with her stage outfits and on top of that they're amazing vocalists that never lip sync (except for one time and they laugh about it now because it was was funny, they said they weren't used to it and are bad at it so they don't do it). This is definitely what makes them different to other groups in my opinion.

Something I just wanted to add because I love these girls so much, but in the industry, Mamamoo are widely acknowledged as Artists rather than idols. During SBS Taipei Concert this year, they were the only group out of the whole lineup to have solo stages for each of their members. To date, they are also the only girl group to ever win an Immortal Songs 2 episode, a show focused on having singers sing old classics by a certain artist and are usually pitted against each other in a 1v1 style. They always sing live. The general public refers to them as ‘BeLisMaMoo’, due to the fact that they have never disappointed during a performance in the years since their debut.

You were right when you said the tune was familiar. This song and the dance track you mentioned sampled that part from the same beat/same producer. It was discussed once when people compared both tracks together. You should try to watch their live performance for this song. Hwasa (the brunette) sounds amazing when she sings live. They all do, honestly. There was another girl group that was also different compared to others but had similar vibe to Mamamoo named SPICA. You would love them too.

They didn't sample. It's just a chill house song (same BPM) in the same standard key and chord progression. Prayer in C uses electric guitar with reverb and this song uses acoustic guitar with reverb. That is what catches people's ear because Schulz's song was a big hit. The songs are otherwise very different though.

Thanks for reacting to them! Mamamoo is a very different group from the typical kpop groups. All the members can sing, rap, compose, write lyrics, choreograph and produce. They are very hands on, they are more of artist rather than idols. If you check out their discography you'll be really surprise. They don't stick to one genre and explore; Jazz, retro, hiphop, pop, ballad, r&b, etc... It is even consider that Mamamoo is a concept. If you can, can you please react to their live performance?? Kpop used to be just very pop songs but over the years it’s completely change. Most ppl described Korean pop now as a blend of different music genres usually a mix of two to three. Sometimes groups stick to one concept or switch it up each single but most of time you would get Kpop groups whose style are more: hip hop/pop, rnb/pop and edm/pop. Mamamoo are a Kpop group and song will technically be considered pop.

Actually, their older songs had more of jazzy and bluesy style like piano man, ahh oop, etc.They started out as a kpop group who leans more towards vocals rather than in heavy dancing. They also participated in a singing competition in korea which proves that they are really good singers. They brought new concept to the people now like this one. Every kpop band has songs that are different and tunic to a specific genre. Not all of their albums and songs are the same, which makes kpop great. You should definitely react to one of their older songs, like "Piano Man", or if you want a little bit more vocals, check out their performances on Immortal songs, where they "remake" an old song. If you would like to check one of those out, I recommend "Wonderful confession", "Love story of a girl" or "Backwoods", those are my favorites.

They said, "It signifies the sound that babies make. 'MAMA' means mother. So it means that we want to approach our listeners organically and instinctively with our music."
