@rejoicefon93804 жыл бұрын
@Heyimayana Vlog, are you in the US? If yes, you can get into medical school essentially with ANY undergraduate degree. It doesn't have to be biomedical engineering. You just need to complete the pre-requisite courses (which you should check with your college pre-med advisor). I am a senior in Biomedical engineering thinking about applying to medical school next year. Biomedical engineering really does give you a unique way of visualizing/understanding the body and how it functions. If the plan is to attend medical school after, it might be helpful as in that you will have an engineering perspective of the body and its systems. In my university, most of the requirements to get into the Biomedical Engineering program are the same as the Pre-med requirements, like General and Organic Chemistry, Physics for Science and Engineers, College biology. But you might still have to take human anatomy and physiology if it is not offered in your engineering program but is required by the medical school you are thinking of applying to. Of which, most medical schools require or recommend those. If you don't mind me giving a piece of advice, if you like the idea of Biomedical engineering and are ready to work smart and hard, go with it, keep in mind that it is quite challenging and you need to have stellar GPA if you want to go to medical school. So it won't be an easy path, BUT YOU CAN DO IT. Do not rush yourself. It doesn't really depend on which is better, it depends on which one you believe you will enjoy. As a biomedical engineering student, i am exposed to stuff like this; a) signal processing, so like understanding what certain sinusoidal waves mean like brain waves, b) biosystems: the electrical concepts such electric circuit set ups of pulse oximeters to calculate your oxygen saturation, amplifying signals etc; c) design a biomedical device and all the aspects and paperwork that come with it; d) programming; e) physiology and anatomy for engineers; f) biomechanics of the body- understanding the forces in the body and how they work. Feel free to respond, if you need anymore guidance :)

Could you get into nanotechnology in terms of cancer research through Biomedical Engineering?
@RiverTechJess6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question Inez! I'll ask Sara and get back to you:)
@RiverTechJess6 жыл бұрын
Hey Inez! I got a reply from Sara. She says: "you can. I worked as an undergraduate researcher in a lab that focuses on cancer drug therapeutics. So there are cancer research opportunities in Biomedical Engineering. Specifically on nanotechnology, the research I supported included working with nanoparticles to deliver drug therapy. There is opportunity to do it through biomedical engineering. You would just need to find the right lab because there is a variety of research on different topics. However, another option too is to do your bachelors in a related engineering topic (just an example: materials engineering) and then get your PhD in biomedical engineering to work on this type of research as well. Many paths you can take."

Thankyou for this video! When you mentioned about the decision of doing a PhD..does it mean you can do one after getting a bachelors degree or do you have to get a masters degree ?
@RiverTechJess6 жыл бұрын
Hmm it depends. MOST of the time (majority) you need a masters degree first. However, I have heard of cases where people have gone from bachelors straight to PhD. But these are exceptional cases (and most of the time the students are geniuses). But honestly I would suggest doing a master's because its just 1-2 years of your life and itll help you decide if you actually want to invest another 3-6years for a PhD

It's just a generic rotational program within her company. Usually, they're called "graduate trainee" programs. But I will ask her the exact name and get back to you:)
@sarakhalek89176 жыл бұрын
Hey David, saw your post. I am Sara in the video. Nice to meet you. The rotational program is a leadership development program in quality engineering. A lot of engineering companies offer rotational programs in different ways - one location/3 different departments/3 different jobs/3 years, multiple locations/6 jobs/total 3 jobs and 6 months each/6 different departments, etc. My rotation is 3 different positions in quality engineering over 3 years in 3 different locations. The exact rotation is "Quality Engineering Rotational Program" but if you search "engineering rotational programs" on google or even reddit you will find a few examples. Good luck!
@sarakhalek89176 жыл бұрын
STEMinine sorry Jess, I want to clarify. I have not heard of a rotational program being called a "graduate trainee" program though I may be wrong and may depend on the company. The concept is a program that offers mentorship, technical development, and leadership development for long term success within the engineering industry. It is a full time job not an internship or the like. Hope that helps clarify.
@RiverTechJess6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Sara for taking the time to answer! Y'a it's also called a "rotational program" in Canada but in Europe we call it "graduate trainee" and it's a transition program that lets you work in many different sectors within a company that allows you to find your best fit in the company. Probably the programs are slightly different between Norh America and Europe:)
