They look better because they are selling them at a loss. They build cars costing $100k and selling them at $45k. This is what Rivian has been doing since the get go. They lost $45k for each of their R1S they sold! Whereas Tesla builds cars cheaper and sell them at a profit. Absolutely not comparable. Apple vs grape.

I really like the R2. I was hoping they’d have a much more affordable truck as well. But, I actually really like this. Despite the “downgrade” which I don’t really think so but others might ex speakers, etc. point being Rivian NEEDS to sell cars. 100k EV I’m sorry not in the financial budget I think for most people. The Sodium Phosphate battery I think is a good call. I think these batteries are the further of EVs.

The lowest model R2 will have 270 mile range with option for a larger battery pack for about 300 miles. Other models with the dual or triple motors will be about 300 mile range

The interior of a rivian is absolutely not the same as a Tesla. I own a model y and have been in a rivian. They are totally different. And not the same whatsoever.

Rivian is following a steady methodical plan that is starting to work. I am going to applaud their efforts and steady work. The have been more consistent than the legacy manufacturers in this space.

Rivian is really knocking it out of the park with these new models and new features. I can see BMW forming an alliance with Rivian to give BMW a leg into the outdoor/adventure market. Rivian might become a big player if BMW helps bring the R2 and especially the R3 over. The R3 seems like it is made for the EU market. That R3X is nuts, I want one bad. It totally reminds me of those wild 1980’s Rally cars.

RJ has said that the $45,000 version will have the same battery architecture but fewer cells for 270 miles. But all motor configurations will offer a 300 mile+ battery.

Looks pretty promising. Looks better than the Donald Duck shape Tesla has. Talking about a 'Frunk', why not a boot lit as a pick up truck has in the back? That way you gain a lot of storage up front.

The smart location, to utilize Superchargers, is to put the charge port driver rear or passenger front. I can't see any reason not to put it where it makes charging easier.

Still not a big fan of the Rivian instantly identyfying headlights - but I generally really like the design of the R2! It looks great and even better than the R1. This could be a winner if they manage high volume production without losing tens of thousands of dollars per vehicle. So far, little indicates they can overcome "production hell" and be profitable.

If they can produce these in volume they’ll sell a ton of them .. sadly I don’t think they’ll be able to make these fast enough in other words yes they’ll come out in 2026 and yes they’ll be amazing but no I don’t think they’ll be able to make enough to meet demand Pity because this is an incredible alternative to the model Y the only real competition I’ve seen and I use the model Y all the time in NYC both as car service and car rentals

Discharging at 10C is great but charging at 10C would be better. The electrical architecture is good and all Rivians will have to go in the same direction.

We own a Tesla M3 w Phosphate battery which we are very happy with but prefer the new R2 / R3 because it will be easier to climb in and out of as well as being a very practical layout too. It’s going to be interesting to see if Rivian actually bring it to market

Judging by the video, they're putting the NACS port on the right-rear corner - seems like the wrong move to me. They should have done the left-rear, to make sure the cables on Tesla chargers will reach.

Although the Rivian R2 and R3 appear to be benchmarked against the Tesla Model Y, they will probably occupy different market segments (e.g, taxicab driver vs forest ranger) with only partial overlap. The automotive brands that should be worried about the R1S, R2, and R3 are Land Rover and Subaru IMHO.

Am an electrical tech...I hope Rivian knows what they are doing. The higher the voltage, the scarier. Yes you save on amperes and the yes it is more powerful, save money, less weight, less material etc. But there are not many out there that can work on this type of electrical architecture. Just wondering.

Putting the NACs charging port on the right rear corner of the vehicle makes no sense. Every Tesla supercharger places the charging cable near the left rear of the vehicle. How is this going to work?

Announcing a vehicle this far in advance of production is risky. Tesla can get away with it but others can't always. Ford really did a lot of damage to the brand and dealers with the F-150 Lightning announcement. Some of the reservation holders will never buy another Ford product after that experience.

I think it'll be possible. Battery prices continue to lower in price. Also, there will be many more competitors, so Rivian may have no choice but to keep their prices as low as possible.

You don't really need it and we will see some horrible accidents. But it is a great way to 1) show the inadequacy of ICE vehicles in face of EVs and 2) to permit ordinary people to have a hypercar quicker than a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Nothing against, RJ, but him telling people that they over delivered because they added not one but two glove compartments seems silly. The car is still a prototype. He could add 5 glove compartments if he wanted to. Prototypes are easy, production is hard. They should have held off on the announcement until at most a year to 6 months from production. And yes I am a little miffed at this company's stock price having dropped 50% from its fairly recent high because of the ridiculous losses they are sustaining per vehicle.

What a poor timing to pick to start selling an EV, 2026. Thats when Tesla starts selling their $25k model 2 and ramping up. With FSD already solved by then and all Tesla cars have it as standard, Rivian will be dead in the water. Also its the year of EV bloodbath with BYD starts to flood US matket with $11k cheap EVs exported from their factory in Mexico. Goodluck.

So will FSD in the near future just like Tesla envisions it. Indeed for Robotaxi concept to work, it has to be standard feature in all Tesla cars. Eventually in all EVs.
