Apsara Platinum VS Apsara Absolute | Which is the best pencil?

You just can’t beat Indian pencils for price/quality. The Absolute and Platinum are great, Nataraj bold is also good. I tend to favor my Apsaras and my Musgrave Harvest Pro. If I’m feeling really freaky I go for the 600 News.

Nice, comprehensive review. I think you're entirely missing the point, though, which is fairly clear on their packaging. The Absolute is marketed as their extra strong pencil. It's meant to have a better point retention and resist breakage more readily. This is what you should have been testing alongside the darkness/smoothness. Which is best? Well, do you need better point retention? That would have been the answer.

True, if the comparisons are to be about durability, then we'd be talking about a completely different video. So many cheap pencils provide long lasting tips. They pile on the clay and hold back on the graphite, and it will last and last and last. But it is a worse writing experience (IMHO) then a buttery smooth pencil that has real depth of tone. In order to get that, you have to sacrifice the long-lasting tip. My pencil comparisons are based on the experience of finding that 'buttery smooth feel with good tonal value'. This is what made the Blackwing 602 so popular for many important historical figures in arts and sciences. And for many of us who love using pencils as an experience, the act of sharpening the pencil adds to the enjoyment of using the pencil. So having to sharpen a few extra times is not considered a negative. Thanks for your comments!

Walmart supposedly sells rebranded Apsara Platinums under their in house brand name called Casemate. They're labeled as Casemate No. 2 Premium wood pencils and are $1 for 8 pencils + a tin tube and sharpener. I'd love to see a comparison between those and the Apsara Platinums.

Hi, Rix! Nice video. I have ordered some Apsara Absolute, I want to try them out. I don't know if you will remember it, but some time ago I asked you for advice to get the most similar pencil to the good old Noricas 2014. And you recommended me the Apsara Platinum. Since them I've been using them and they are just awesome, so I wanted to thank you. By the way, I would love to see your top ten pencil video. It's been a while since you told me about the Platinum and I would love to see if it's still your everyday favourite and, if not, which one it's. You have very good "pencil taste". Hey, thanks. I stopped tasting pencils when I was a little boy. Bad for the digestion. :-b I still like the Apsara Platinum, the Norica 2014, and my absolute favorite the Blackwing Pearl. But there are so many pencils I like! There will be upcoming pencil wars I will whittle down the favorites. Stay tuned!

Apsara absolute pencle is better than the apsara platnum because the lead is stronger but every thing else is the same

I'm looking for a good dark pencil I need something that will show up as I make marks/notes in the text but i need them to pop. Number 2 pencils are not the darkest, so you're looking for the darkest #2. The Apsara Platinum is a dark #2.
