That app map doesn't label enough facilities, so I HIGHLY recommend a paper map to go along with the app (sorry). The paper map has a comprehensive list of rides and restaurants. You can circle the attractions that you want to visit so you get a better perspective of which are in close proximity. This helps to avoid walking all over when another ride is close by. The app will show you where you are and you can compare with your prepared paper map. My opinion--they need to upgrade the app so that you can touch the screen and have it tell you what every building is. They also need better signs in the park.

So true. The app map isn't good. That's true at all parks. I will always use a paper map. More user friendly, more info, easier to find things. If the issue is that you don't look cool if you use a paper map, I gave up trying to look cool a long time ago.

Always get a paper map, having a physical map incase your phone dies or your service craps out can be a huge help. Not to mention it also serves as a free souvenir. Been going to theme parks my whole life, and I always get a paper map regardless if I use it or not.

I absolutely LOVE that there isint a single sign to diagonal alley and also that there are very few signs for knockturn alley. It disperses the crowds, makes it feel more of a secret, and keeps it true to the books. I hope they never put signs!

Knockturn Alley was my saving grace when we visited a month ago. I developed a very intense migraine and hung out in there for almost an hour in the dark.

Another rookie mistake, not coming with a game plan. So many families or groups end up standing around deciding what to do next even when they know the park. You can always change your plan, but only if you have one to begin with.

It drives me crazy that so many people attend the parks with their own packed lunches too. I think it's a rookie mistake. The amazing selection of restaurants and food/drink on offer within all the parks is something everyone should be supporting. Without the food, there is NO experience.

@@blackbeard6423 eating at the parks can be super expensive, especially if you are there with family. Can easily cost 100 dollars a day for a family of 4. I usually go to parks by myself and I still bring a lunch. I’d rather not spend 30-40 dollars for a couple meals when I can just go back to my car and have the same or more amount of food for free

Nocturne Alley was the best place to sit and rest, eat lunch. I think a lot of people miss it so it was much less chaotic

For the fashion tip I must say there is a way to be fashionable and comfortable! Especially for those who prefer a feminine style! Cute skirts and sun dresses with slip shorts under is perfect!

Since you do valet so much, you've forgotten a BIG rookie mistake so many make everyday!!! Don't forget to take a picture of where you parked. After a long day in the hot sun you may forget if you are in Kong, Spider-man, or ET. Having a photo in your phone (AND the app), can save you TONS of time walking around the garages setting off your car alarm trying to figure out if you are even on the right floor.

Hey --- paper maps are a great free souvenir!! Regarding the "secret" Diagon Alley entrance ---- when I've visited, I often have seen a Universal employee stationed there to point out the entrance to first timers. It's actually kind of funny to hear someone say -- "Here's the secret entrance!!" In a loud voice.

Nocturne Alley is a great place to buy a wand! Way less busy than Ollivanders, though they do have a smaller selection.

Ok, those cups are genius. I've avoided getting a freestyle cup 'cause I love being able to navigate the parks and rides hands-free with only a fanny pack. But I also don't enjoy standing in line at a food cart just to ask for a water cup and then having to ditch it right away. These collapsible ones will fit in the fanny pack! Great idea!!

Thanks for the info. Im happy to say that with a lot of your videos and others, I probably avoided around 85% of the mistakes you mentioned. The one thing I was guilty of was carrying a large backpack, but I remedied that on the next day anyway. I just got back and thanks to you and others, me any my friends vacay was a blast.

I definitely made the Diagon Alley mistake my first visit. We ended up at King's Cross station and went to Hogsmead instead. I didn't realize we missed it until we got back home then I told my husband we had to go back the next year to make it up. Also, didn't know anything about Noctourn Alley until last year. We walked through there for the first time in November.

It took us at least 3 days to find Nocturne Alley and we had to ask a TM to find it. I laughed out loud when you said it took you a year. I felt so much better!!! I also said out loud standing in London, “Where is everyone going?” I had done research so I knew what existed, but I did not know how to find it. These are good tips for anyone!!!!

I 'found' it -my first trip. It was a dark area, turned out to be cooler, plus, all the cool things to do. Later I heard people asking where Nocturne Alley is, when they started describing what was there I showed them but told them I didn't know it had a Name!

Just a heads up, if you want to ride the front row on Velocicoaster, do standby line, do not use single rider line. They will fill you wherever there’s an empty seat on the coaster, and that doesn’t guarantee it will be the front row. BTW, front row on Velocicoaster is where it’s at, way too much fun!

I agree. On many coasters, back is best. Velocicoaster is one of the rare ones that is better in front. Also, the single rider line often can take longer than the regular line on this ride. They work on other rides, but not as much on Velocicoaster.

I just started to watch your videos and find them very helpful. I have an adult son with autism. We just recently took him to Universal Studios in Florida. It was our first time there. Perhaps you can put together a video with suggestions on the best way to go to Universal Studios for adults and children with sensory issues. It would have made our trip a little less stressful. The staff at Universal are great and understanding. It would be great to know exactly where the best quiet areas are and which attractions are the least loud, fast, and furious. Thanks

Possibly the worst place you can take an autistic child during high season. If your son is dead set on going, perhaps a winter trip might be more appropriate? There is simply no way you can cater to his needs when it is so packed, hot, noisy, and just...you know...everything like that.

We try to schedule visits to themed parks when most of the kids are in school. We just wanted to know where the best quiet places are in Universal. We know when we go to Disney World where many of the quiet areas are. Universal is still new to us. Once again thank you for your advice.

Other rookie mistakes: 1) If you are wanting to go straight to Gringotts, use the 2nd Diagon Alley entrance beyond the 1st one. 2) Don’t have the entire family or group at the lockers. Send a person or two with all the belongings. This is especially bad at Mummy and Gringotts. 3) Not using the hidden lockers at Gringotts. You pass them when you exit the ride itself. These are almost never utilized as everyone crowds into that little room. Including annoying group members who aren’t lockering anything. 4) Your group/family walking 4-8 abreast, creating a human wall. Break it up a little and walk in 2s or 3s, or expect to get pushed out of the way by faster walking people. 5) Standing on the left on the moving walkways after security and before CityWalk. That’s the passing lane.

We made the first and 2nd mistake the first day at Universal. We went in earlier the 2nd day (they let you in 15 minutes before the opening) and boy that made a huge difference. We did our favorite rides couple times because there were not too many people there yet.

I work at Universal and two big mistakes is people not paying attention to operating hours or attraction closures. I had a father and son a couple months back get upset because the parks closed at 6 (IOA) and 7(USF) and all I could do was direct them to guest services in the next area. Even when we have walls up to indicate ‘this attraction is closed for refurbishment’ somehow guests will still assume they can ride it. Heck sometimes guests will be a little, well, dumb on where something is logically going to be. They always assume the dinosaur rides are in Toon Lagoon instead of Jurassic Park. Another mistake is not knowing the actual name of the places you’re going to. I’ve had quite a number of guests not be able to tell me what they’re looking for but eventually gave me one word that told me exactly what they’re looking for and I have to tell them it’s back in the direction they just came from, at the other side of the park where there’s no short way over or it’s in the other park altogether. Sometimes team members will give wrong directions by mistake because of this. I remember one where the guest was trying to get to their table serve restaurant for dinner and my coworker started giving the guest directions to Confisco instead of Mythos. Even though I was busy helping get another guest order at the time I quickly wrapped that up and gave the guest the correct directions to get to Mythos. Yes some team members mix places up as well, especially those two restaurants. I even had a team member not know how to point guests to Marvel even though we are right next to them.

I see all those mistakes too. I've been going to Orlando every third year since 1990 - I think I know what I'm talking about. The most Rookie mistake I see, Douglas Freer, are people who insist on bringing their own food into the parks. They say they do it to save money and that they're being "clever" but then they leave without having sampled the incredible food at all the restaurants on offer. I think everyone should spend at least half their day exploring all the options that there are.

Going early tip, ya we stayed on property and arrived prior to park opening along with every other family who stayed on property. It was insanely crowded, like a mosh pit at a Miley Cyrus concert crowded. Then after pushing through the mosh pit (after waiting in line for transportation to the park and another line to enter park) we got to wait in more lines at rides because the rides don't open until much later. Miserable experience overall.

Hi Rix, please would you be able to help me with a question. I am from the UK, and visit Orlando most years. When I go to Disney, customer relations put a DAS pass onto my Disney planner to access the virtual queues, as I have malignant melanoma cancer and need to stay in the shade while queuing. I have not visited Universal in a while but have booked for the end of the year. Do Universal have a similar scheme? Hope you might know. Love watching your vlogs and information is knowledge. 😊

This is a trip for getting to the park. If you are renting a car, Florida has toll roads to save travel time the Florida DOT sells temporary toll fast passes and you can buy them in the Orlando Airport.

Another Rookie mistake not standing on the right side of the walkway and being right in the way with a sudden stop. Or on the moving walkways move to one side.
