They already ordered 72 B787s. The A321s are to collect passengers from various Saudi cities and bring them to their hub in Riyadh where the wide bodies will take them to international destinations. My guess is that very soon they'll announce further purchases of wide bodies, possibly A350s or B777x.

Airbus, with this small victory, needs to take a serious introspective look at their structure. The Chinese COMAC C919 will soon be approved internationally, and when that happens, the Duopoly is over, and there is a minimum market share that WILL be ceded to COMAC. Boeing will be seriously injured, but airbus still has an opportunity to wake up from the complacency of the age of duopoly.

The c919 will not soon get "international certification". As of now the c919 is being produced under 1 unit per month and there is no support system outside of China.

Interesting fleet but not uncommon. Remember, this is Saudi Arabia. The country should not be celebrated yet. They have some serious government/social issues but things are supposed to be getting better. I imagine that this will be a luxurious airline that challenges the other three (Emirates, Etihad, Qatar).
