Rizal Day - 12/30/2011

President Benigno S. Aquino III led the commemoration rites for the 115th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal at the Rizal National Monument in Manila.
He led the flag-raising ceremony with Vice President Jejomar Binay, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Maria Serena Diokno, Cabinet members, military officers and other government executives.
President Aquino also honored the national hero with an offer of a wreath at the Rizal National Monument in the presence of four descendants from the Rizal clan: Marlene Jacinto (Paciano), Mia Syquia Faustmann (Maria), Luisa Tinio Bayot (Saturnina) and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairperson Teresita Herbosa (Lucia).
The President proceeded to unveil the Rizal Fountain historical marker at the Noli Me Tangere Garden where he was joined by NHCP Executive Director Ludovico Badoy and other officials.
The fountain was a gift from the German government to the people of the Philippines during the 68th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of the National Hero in 1964.
