Cool stuff, i'm mainly a recording sound engineer for music. However i did a foley project once too and really loved it. Try recording simple things like footsteps in stereo xy it will gave more spatial natural sound more realistic.

This is fantastic stuff! I hope you guys do a video on scoring because I think music is one of the most challenging resources indie filmmakers can get or create. Do you guys use instrument libraries and midi keyboards or do you use royalty free music?
@KevinSenzaki8 жыл бұрын
It varies project to project; sometimes we'll use music from a library, and other times we'll work with a composer, who typically delivers us material done via instrument libraries/MIDI, and/or with the additions of some basic band elements, like guitar and vocals. In a few instances when budget has allowed, we've done "proper" orchestral recordings, like with some of VGHS.

You didn't mention where you got or how you made the sounds that are louder/better on a subwoofer
@KevinSenzaki8 жыл бұрын
+noreaction A subwoofer in a home speaker setup will just naturally play the lower frequencies. There isn't an explicit or specific process like you have with surround sound mixing (anything like 5.1 or 7.1 etc.; the number after the decimal refers to subwoofer channels). In a surround environment, you directly control signal send to the subwoofer channel, but for stereo mixes, it's just a decision to include lower frequencies or not. I typically try to put some in for in for big moments, but it can start taking away from the clarity of everything else if it gets pushed too much.

+Kevin Senzaki let me rephrase: where do you get/how do you synthesize the sounds you later into the mix that are most prominent below 250-300 hz
@KevinSenzaki8 жыл бұрын
Depends on the situation. Bass-heavy rumbles, etc. in samples can be augmented and cleaned up with pitch shifting and EQ, while a pure tone or other synthesized wave form can be created with a basic tone/signal generator, and then processed as necessary (like if you want the tone to pitch-bend down, etc.) I personally use a lot of the Pro Tools default signal generator and Abysnth by Native Instruments for synthesizing, but I'll more often just take a real-world sample and EQ the higher frequencies out of it (things like impacts, rumbles, explosions, thunder, etc.)

The thing is, your sound is way to heavy for that gun. Too much done here!! Typical amateur-design
