Found this video before I got a scooter and I’ll say it literally saved my life, I was “hit” by a car that didn’t indicate it was crossing 4 lanes of traffic to pull into their apartment complex and I’m still here because I was able to shift my body weight to help slow myself down just enough to hit the car and not be full on hit by the car. You’re incredible and I had to find this video again so I could subscribe.

The video is great but I personally think that if someone actually doesn't know any of it then they shouldn't even be on a scooter in the first place It's all just common sense but unfortunately even in this day and age a lot of people are missing it

Hello from Melbourne, Australia. Always have enjoyed your videos. One thing I had to learn when I first started riding was brake distribution. A newer rider grabbing a handful of front brake in an emergency stopping situation is not ideal, even with leaning back while braking. Having an understanding of how to apply each brake with correct force would be beneficial to new riders to learn and avoid going over the front of the scoot. Keep up the great videos.
@RK9Rides
@RK9Rides 2 жыл бұрын
Great point. That's something that did cross my mind when making this video and probably should have covered here. Not sure how your bike brakes are routed in Australia, but lots of scooters have the rear and front brake routing switched when compared to bike brake routing here in the USA and lots of first time riders will accidently lock up the front brake thinking it is the rear brake and send themselves over the handlebars.

Hi. My trek MTB and Weped Fold are both left rear, right front. However my sons Mantis Pro 10 is the opposite. Not sure if factory set, or repairer did that when stem was replaced a while back. I was almost caught out big time taking the Mantis out earlier this week when braking especially going from drum brakes on the fold, to the discs on the Mantis. This is what got me thinking about this when I saw you video.

Terrific video! Thanks for taking the time to put this together in such a professional manner. If I could add one thing --- look in the direction you want to turn. Don't stare straight ahead, normally, you will go where you are looking. Learn to do this when you are first starting out and I will guarantee you that your comfort level in making those tight or higher speed turns will increase significantly.

Personally I think Zero Start can be a bit dangerous and I recommend disabling it, especially on higher power scooters. I have a Hover 1 Pioneer, which is kick start only, and I do have to admit the 3mph speed is a bit high. When riding slowly, like in a very tight or crowded place, it is easy to 'stall' the scooter, where you slow down enough so that you have to kick again to get going. However, on the Varla Eagle One, you barely have to get the scooter rolling for it to engage, its less than 1mph, so the stalling issue is completely gone and it is easy to ride at low speeds. It is easy to hit the throttle by accident, especially on a finger throttle, and with a high powered scooter like the Eagle One, you can easily cause damage, hurt yourself or anyone in front of you. I really think scooters should have a button similar to hoverboards that gets pressed down only when a rider is on the scooter, so if you're not on top of it the throttle gets disabled. Basically a dead man's switch.
@RK9Rides
@RK9Rides 2 жыл бұрын
I personally really like zero start and find kick-to-start scooters frustrating, but you should do what you feel most comfortable with. Luckily, many scooters have the option to turn zero start off and on so there is a bit of flexibility. Kick-to-start is basically your proposed dead man switch. You have to be on the scooter and moving to active the throttle. I think having a dead man's switch on scooters would cause more problems than it solved. I honestly don't find myself accidentally activating the throttle when I don't want to, but that's just my personal experience. Just my two cents, thanks for commenting :)
@iyaramonk
@iyaramonk 2 жыл бұрын
Zero start is the first thing I disabled. I set mine to 3 km/h and it works fine and it just eliminates having accidental throttle. I also turned my acceleration way way down and now I get a smooth ride, my bike was just too aggressive by default.

If I were to attempt to make this tutorial out here in Poland, Poles would have rushed down to the park hurling all kinds of racial slurs & literally walking into my frame just to ruin the video, I kid you not. I crashed yesterday, I thought I could make the turn at the speed but even though I was leaning and turning like crazy I realized I wasn’t gonna make and and I was gonna hit a car so I realized I needed to slow down and stop turning or else I would hit the car, so I pulled both brakes and it slowed down but it still hit a curb since I stopped turning and I fell. This crash was a necessary experience.

Thanks for the tips. Can you do something for scooter riders who go too fast around bikes and pedestrians and put lots of innocent people in danger? I have had many close calls with e-scooters because their riders never say they are there and they have no devices like bike bells. They just hope everyone always stays exactly where they are and never does anything unpredictable like lean one way or move their arms etc.
