A COD mate, I am so happy for you! When the drought breaks... WHOA! What a nice fish. You never can tell.

That is great, I've got cod on corn but never anything like that lol What a beast mate. well done. Just FYI, cod cannot absorb oxygen when pushed backwards in the water, next time you catch a big one, just push it forward out into the deep. Cold water holds higher oxygen rates and a push rushes water over the gills, the cod will do the rest.. great vlog though mate. (next time turn the wind off first yeah).... hahhahahahaha.......... winter fishing lol

Thanks so much Dinga! I wasn't meaning to push it backwards, I was half hanging over the bank whilst laying on my fat guts, was trying not to fall in hahaha. I did end up giving it a gentle nudge at the end there when it swam off, once I was sure it had it's balance good and proper. Thanks for the awesome comment mate.

RKJ Fishing no worries, you just never know what everyone knows, spreading the knowledge is what it’s all about 👌🏼👌🏼 A little upset that I’ve never caught a monster cod on corn though hahahahaha. Again mate, well done AND what a way to break the drought! 👍🏼👍🏼

@@MurrayCrabbFishing Actually, cod cannot absorb much oxygen when pushed forward either, this is because they actually bring water in through the gill plate and spit it out their mouth when breathing, unlike salt water fish which breathe in the opposite direction, in through the mouth and out through the gills. All freshwater fish breathe in this manner. It is to do with osmotic regulation. Salt water fish have to constantly drink water to keep the osmotic balance in their cells. Too much salt pulls water from their cells and collapses them, thus they are always fighting to keep water in their system. In the fresh water, they have the opposite problem, that is, water is absorbed into their cells. Thus, they try to avoid taking in too much water by spitting most of what they take in during the breathing process. Holding the jaw of a freshwater fish in the release is the worst thing we can do, as the opening and closing of their jaw is what opens and closes the opercula to pump the water across the gills. The holding of the fish's mouth and forcing it into the current is a carry over from blue water fishing, where tunnel breathers such as tuna, marlin and billfish all benefit from having water forcefully pushed through their mouth and out their gills. This is how they normally breath. The best way to revive a freshwater fish, if they require it, is to just gently cradle it below their belly and allow it to breathe normally. It will take off when it is ready.

Corn was one bait.. what was the other bait? Nice fish, its always great just expecting the dinks or nothing at all and ones PB hits. Winter time here, the carp remain active ,just a bit slower, the catfish remain active ,again just a bit slower. But a bad day of fishing is still better than sitting on the couch. You need a scale mate. But i do wish i could pull in the amount of carp you do. Tight lines to ya 👍
@RKJFishing5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! That rod had corn, the other one had garden worms on it. The carp still bite slowly in the winter time here too, you're right about fishing better than being at home on the couch! I definitely need scales, but I can estimate that Murray Cod would have weighed at least 50lbs. Thanks again buddy, tight lines back at ya!
