The cod are fired up!!!

Someone forgot to tell the local murray cod that the season doesn't open until Tuesday, because they were smashing my bread baits during this session! Bread is a very common bait for carp, and while it's always possible to hook a cod as a by-catch when using bread, it's usually not a common occurrence. If the 2 fish that got away during this session were also cod, it's a sure sign that they are very hungry! The upcoming cod season should be an absolute ripper.

You look really comfortable with that temperature thee. We fished crucians and carp with bread in Europe too. We were adding egg yolk to bread to make it more stable in a water.

Yeah it was a hot day but it's going to get a lot hotter in the next month or 2! I'll have to try using egg yolk on my bread, thanks for the tip

That second fish is how most carp bite hear in the US. We have lots of turtles that also love bread, as well as catfish and crayfish ( like your yabbies )... I would think they were either much small fish or shrimp etc instead of carp or cod ‘nibbling’ at it...

Ah yeah our turtles love bread as well, I tend to catch a few of them in the autumn months usually. It's quite possible the small nibbles were shrimp or tiny fish, but if the rod tip is moving I'm not moving far from the rod hahaha

Absolutely it is. I truly believe it's a credit to the Victorian Fisheries Authority and their dedicated stocking programs. We live in the lucky state as far as fishing is concerned. I can't wait to see what its like in another 10 years!

I agree, both fish I lost slammed the rod the same way actually (I just missed the bite on the 2nd one) I'll head back there with some decent surface lures one night next week and hopefully draw it out hehe

I have had it happen a few times. Had a tiny reddy straighten a 3x 3/0 Hook on my once. Definitely just a little reddy. 😆😮😥😪😭

Thanks mate! Yeah I saw the petition, but it won't do any good, the state government has already written it off. The pumps cost a couple hundred thousand dollars per year to run, and 3 million to replace - they just can't afford it apparently. It will be up to the commonwealth government if the lake receives any water or not, and there's not much chance of that either. I'm afraid Greens Lake is going the way of Lake Mokoan, which really sucks.
