Joni Mitchell wrote and recorded this piece, but Judy Collins' version became more popular. If you listen to Joni's version, it may not sound as "cheery" as Judy's, but it matches the message in the lyrics perfectly. (This sort of reminds me of Carole King's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" in that other versions have achieved more commercial success, but her original version is truer to the lyrics.) Of course, that's just my humble opinion.
