that BTS breakdown, super interesting to see. what's the most wireless lavs you've had running simultaneously in a single scene?

Thanks for doing these! Everyone can improve their game by watching others. It's great to see your videos because they're basically raw, what you see is what you get kinda thing, it's the real deal! the good, the bad, and the ugly! You're the man!

Glad you started finding work again! We started picking up in June down in LA. It's coming back but it's definitely a new world. Nothing that terrible though, as long as crews are good then compliance is easy as hell. Good to see you back!

Damn this is just another level! I'm operating a "one man band zoom f8 n stuff in a bag" sort of business and i think it can get alot from time to time. But what you are doing is pretty much giving me a panic attack LOL! Sound cart mixers are the real fighter pilots of the sound team!
@RLFOSOUND4 жыл бұрын
Its all the same ! Honestly for me Bag mixing is harder no time to properly trouble shoot. Once you get a 2 or 3 person team things get more relax so everyone can focus on their task and excel

I love you man - you whole approach to work and life - is stunning. I would love to rack your brain RE power: I'm still running my bag rig (833 and three lecto's off an np1/audio root solution. Been thinking about adding monitors (BM duo's and a icon M surface to my mini cart (same as your old config). How would you recommend say running off a block batt / mains and keeping a back up np1 solution just for the bag rig I.E if I want to quickly jump off the cart into a run/gun situation or if there was a power fail via mains or block bat. I know its a big question but if any one knows - its you
@RLFOSOUND3 жыл бұрын
Hello Craig, I never used the root solutions before but I am able to to power my monitors and cl12 with my 633 bag set up I am currently using the psc triple play I like that one cause it allows me to use 3 different power sources when i am In the cart i can use AC then if I unplugged it goes to battery power, maybe there is a way to power yours like that, send me a message on facebook we can look into this further

How the hell do you set your gain when you know you're recording gunshots My f4's limiters and I are sad 😞
@terryo43524 жыл бұрын
Use the Dual-Channel recording feature, set one channel super low. It will duplicate the input and send it to two channels. Do one at 'normal' volume and one way lower. If the 'normal' one peaks, the lower one should get it cleaner.
@lamenamethefirst4 жыл бұрын
Gunshots are not just loud, they're super dynamic. If you want to capture the decay at a proper level too, you may want some way to extend your dynamic range. This could be anything from using 32 bit float or two mics into two separate channels at different gain. Now for the less fancy but overlooked part, you need a mic that can handle high SPL. sometimes, this alone will greatly improve your recording. All the 32 bit or dual channel magic in the world won't work if your mic is overloading. If your mic has a pad, use it. I would avoid limiters because if you are engaging it significantly then you're also ruining the tone. It'll sound kinda small compared to the real thing. You'll notice this on recordings where loud gunshots just sound like "pft pft" cause of the limiting. Use it as a safety device rather than a way to increase dynamic range. I've recorded some explosives and fireworks on just a Zoom H4n with a mixer and it came out great thanks to some clever mic placement and gain staging. Hope this helps in some way.
