After listening to Pandit Mansur I can't listen to any other khayal singer. No-one has a total command of rhythm in a raag like Mansur ji. A total unique genius.

I am not sure but I think the picture of Pt.Mallikarjun Mansur is drawn by the renowned artist Sharvari Roychoudhuri.

Sharbari Roychoudhury of Shantiniketan was a sculptor. Never knew he painted portraits too.

@@soumitralahiri967 I am not sure if it is drawn by him, or sculpted by him and photographed. But I am sure about the artist and the subject. Sarbari's fascination for Hindustani Classical Music is well known. Thanks for your comment.

Hemant Ghayal Thanks for the interaction. I knew people who were intimate with Sarbari Roychoudhury and I came to know of his collection of classical music in 78rpm discs as well as in taped recordings. I also remember a TV Programme in the 1990s featuring him. Most likely as with Ramkinkar Bez and Suren Kar , both of sculpture fame, Sarbari could draw and paint too. He is no more today with us but his memory lives among those who knew him.

How I came to know of him is through the writings of the celebrated Marathi author Pu.La.Deshpande who was a common friend to Sarbari and Mallikarjun Mansur. Hindustani classical music was their common thread of interest. Of course Mallikarjun Mansur was a great singer, well deserving his Padma Vibhushan.
