What a sensational rendition of one of my favourite songs. Playing AND singing perfection from Michael Hedges. All Heart. Requiescat In Pace to both him and John Martyn. What beauty there is in music.

I was aware of Micheal as an ace guitarist, but more of a surprise to me is Micheal's supremely relaxed vocals when performing live on this John Martyn classic. RIP both of those guys.

I agree with other commenters that this is particularly stellar. I feel very grateful viewing this tonight. To be able to have videos such as these to remind us of the angelic side of life is precious beyond words right now. As a Cali gal who was born and grew up in Bay Area I feel the sweetness of this moment. "Employee dinner" indeed. So many thank yous on loop. My heart feels rested. Blessings Randy and Michael and friends and Michael's family. We will always remember you with such gratitude. Xoxo

This is the coolest hippie, love power, vibrant, happening, sweet, video I have ever seen. It's amazing. It's got everything. The Whole atmosphere of this video sends you into another beautiful time and place. I just can't stop watching it. Increadible. Michael Hedges and Randy Lutge have been very talentful to create and capture these breathtaking moments in time. Peace

Takes me back to when Palo Alto was not "Discovered". A wonderful time, at the end of an era. He was so young! I feel fortunate to have been there when it was a small college town and before silicon valley ate it up!

Yeah wasn't that great?! The spirit of the ancestors and the lands are a blessing still, for those who respect it. I miss him. Grateful. Cheers.

Michael Hedges uses a Guild F50 R Maple Blonde (now a F55). At the end of the 70's, John Martyn was using during few years a Guild D55 NT.

Randy so good to discover your channel and all this archive you have Michael. So glad you documented so much. I saw him for the first time in 1984 in Memphis. It's good to see him particularly in some vocal covers from the very early days before he was so defined yet still very smooth and lovely tones here.

Randy, it seems that you know well MIchael Hedges. He can play on various guitars; Martin, Guild... Michael Hedges has always this very personal sound , half crystalline, half metallic. Do you know why? A guitar effect, gauge strings or something else? I also saw that on stage, there are two exits jacks on his guitar, why?
@darkhorse19858 жыл бұрын
It's the not the guitars. It the the right hand tapping of of the strings between striking them.He's mimicking the character of John Martyn, one of his favourite songwriters.

Randy Lutge Oh, I see! It didn't occur to me that films would get played again over the years. I suppose I'm too young to have ever experienced that, hehe. Great videos, by the way. They're so personal and genuine. Thank you.

Randy is correct. This is the first night of his 2nd summer=1981. Michael 1st summer at the New Varsity was the summer of 1980, the year he took a music seminar at Stanford University.
