I'm glad you picked up on the fact that the second half of the video, when he acts 'happy' and 'normal' in those 4 societal situation, is NOT a resolution of the conflict. It was deliberately made to be uncanny and uncomfortable. That person smiling and fitting all the correct roles as a father, friend, etc. was not the real Namjoon - this message went over a lot of people's heads. The word 'performative' was perfect for this. Thanks for your great analysis.

your videos are so underrated i hope it gets the deserved attention.... no one explains the MVs like you ,noticing each and every details with feelings... even if its theoretical i can understand every feeling RM had gone through to be able to write this song

The set with a the rooms reminds me also of Jhope More mv where we see Jhope in a box looking up at himself who is looking back at him before putting a lid on the box. As well as a famous painting with stairs that lead to no where. I can't remember the name.

I trend toward thinking the mv is more about his relationship with himself than another person, but you make excellent points as always! Great vid! Ty ty ty!

Dang, woman - you did it again! You hit the nail on the head with this one. Or, at least, in my mind you did. I felt like so much of this video was a call-back to Map of the Soul/Love Yourself. I'm so impressed with RM's mind and poetry. Great breakdown, as usual. Thank you! 💜💜

I don't know if there's any connection, but CBTM reminds me so much of a live Namjoon did in October last year (231019) - Someone asked him "What do you do when you feel lost and lonely?" and he replied, "This is really penetrating because, actually, I do feel lost and lonely these days a lot. I don't know. I always try to get my grip, but it's really hard to. The only answer is to just enjoy the calmness and try to be a friend with my own self because nobody can save you except you....I've tried a decade just to enjoy the calmness and befriend my inner self. But it's always hard because life is too - I'm too young and there are a lot of, what do you say, touches and hookings and mesmerizing things. So, you know, we always try." He talked about it quite a bit back then between answering other comments.

Thank you so much for this! 💜 I have read multiple theories ARMYs have shared, they are all amazing and so many are very personal. I have not yet had that personal epiphany with this song and video because when watching I get so distracted by the beautiful artistry and often get distracted from the visuals by the vibe and sound of this gorgeous song. It's truly another masterpiece and whatever high expectations I hold for the rest of the Right Place Wrong Person album, I know RM will exceed the highest expectations, as he always does. The magic of BTS music = creating songs that reach so many. Truly incredible. I purple you! 💜 *double wave*

What if come back to me is a longing for what RM yearns for to come back to him and the open door and the light at the end just suggest that he's able to break out of all the unnecessary barriers that try to hold him in his conventional place. He chooses himself above all conventions.Society is for the betterment of the individual, and not the other way round.Society must always be open to change! If RM decides to be pure in the midst of all that society expects, what's wrong in that? ❤😊 He wishes to live life according to his dreams ❤ Society should never be detrimental to an individual's development.

I love your interpretation. I have heard many so far and most make sense since I feel like Namjoon’s lyrics are open for many interpretations. Thank you for the time you take to break this down for us. 💜

I completely agree with you . I think being husband , dad , lover and son of your family are the roles that he has to be as just one person , but because he is depressed he cant do any of them well. The last girl is his anima , because when he finally faces himself , he sees this last girl ,and when he faces his true self the situation of being lost ends for both of them. Then he is able to do well in the roles that he has to be , so the roles and places are right but the way we behave and think is wrong. Right place , Wrong person😊

Thank you. I’ve heard so many varying theories about this song/mv that my head is spinning. Although everyone finds their own interpretation, for me this is it. The others just didn’t seem plausible - to me. Namjoon wanted us to interpret however we wanted and he did a genius, beautiful job. So did you.

I think if u have the right person with you, your soulmate or twinflame, everything that life's offer seems nice and more than mundane. You enjoy doing everything and exploring more to life than societal norms. Do good for others with each other support. Your life become more meaning full. This is what I got from the video. Namjoon got his support system with similar ideology and goes on venture to explore more of what life has to offer

Thank you for this analysis! It’s the most detailed and to my mind makes a lot of sense of this enigmatic MV. Having said that, I’m okay with there being an open question about both the song and the MV - it then feels like a continuation of the ethos of BTS Universe and many of their other music videos, and so closes the loop by “coming back to” BTS after their solo ventures….

i had a very similar interpretation, i love how you put your thoughts into words and worked very closely with the material.. i do see CBTM relating back to HYYH, LYS and Map of the Soul though i mainly focused on the connection to 'moonchild' since the lyrics seem to reference it. He says 'i'll roll you to the moon' which in 'moonchild' is characterized as ones hardship and pain but also something admirable and the source of hope for others. For CBTM I speculate that means he tries to show that it's okay and natural to face this struggle. As we are each others nightscapes, each others moons he seems to convey courage to embark on this journey as well. to not suffer under societies pressure, but to thrive through the pain and eventually bloom and i think thats really beautiful. i wonder if that makes sense to you too or if im just yapping haha.. anyways i love your interpretations 1000- truly admirable- thanks! 💜

Impressed with your take as usual, and especially gratified that you also see Kim Minha as portraying an anima figure. How could she not be, with the self-reflection allusions. IMO quite likely another Jungian based hero’s journey of individuation. So many symbols and motifs we’ve seen before. But she could represent Army as well as anima, and/or represent a new call to adventure and further self-discovery.

The lyrics spring's always been here, I will sleep in her eyes reminds me of the lyrics to Change ft Wale. "I see grass growing in winter's eyes." In that song, it was about having hope in your perspective even though your current situation is cold/despairing/winter. So to me that lyric says 'spring/hope has always been here, i can finally rest in her perspective' some people think spring's always been here is joons way of convincing himself that nothing is wrong and he can stay in the familiarity without having to leave. and that the line you are my pain, divine, divine is about growth and finding yourself being painful and repetitive but ultimately important, right for you, and true. I like that interpretation too.

Thank you author!!!! I’ve read a lot of interpretations for the “Come Back to Me” clip! And this is the first analysis of the clip and the song that correspond to each other in meaning!!!!! 1. I think Namjoon is making references to BTS, to the albums LY and the Soul Map!!!! 2. He really suffers from the absence of a loved one! 3. I think that “Her” doesn’t have to be a girl! Completely agree with the author!!!!!

Oh... you had some insights I didn't see or get. Those colors on the face was something I was really wondering about and being each others support does usually mean that you need to balance each other out indeed. Furthermore, him not truly smiling during the second time in those different scenarios was something that was indeed also off for me and didn't completely been able to place. But now I got it, even if he was himself without dealing with any mental illness, he wouldn't still be happy as it's still not what he wanted. Thank you for the clarification! Anyone has any idea about those round small windows meaning? Only one door had three and another had four. What meaning does that have? That's probably the last thing that I didn't seem to get really. Oh and when the sound increases to become more complex over time is something I have been wondering about. Why that increndo? Is it that life has become more complex as he learned to understand more about himself?
