We just picked up an RM85 and I will be servicing the forks soon. Ive only done the KYB forks on the full size Yamaha's YZ125 & YZ250 before so thanks for some good info on these.

Thanks for sharing. I have always wondered how they came apart for maintenance. Look forward to seeing the bike build.

Nice video mate, you made something that alot of mechanics either say is hard or make look hard, look very easy! I have been fixing my neighbours sons 03 RM85, and just did the seals after watching your video, it was so easy, thankyou! (Only other seals I have ever done were on my 04 GSXR1000) One thing I have noticed that are on these RM forks, but not on yours are air release valves with the letter B on them on the top cap! They are standard forks though, so how come yours don't have them?

People find forks and shocks very intimidating but really it’s not if you are just doing a severe or replacing some used parts. Now getting them revolved and things like that you’re better off leaving that to a professional. I’m happy I could help and for the Air bleeders you usually don’t see them on a smaller forks. Some have them some don’t.

How much do you spend on this bike I'm trying to buy 2003 rm 85 and I'm planning to rebuild like u did

Thank you for the video... I am redoing a rm85.. and I don't have any oil leaking.. what if you just have to add oil...how do you know how much is in there.. or should I just use your general rule of four inches from the top..? Also.. did you ever do a video on how to replace the stem bearings.. or steering knuckle bearing... Which ever you call it..? I was laughing when you could not find that ring to out on.. reminded me of me so many times... Where did that dam thing go... I just had it here!!! Lok

Just dump out the old and put 351cc back in. If it’s a little bigger rider put a little more in the fork or heavier weight oil will do the tricks well.

You didnt bleed the forks or how did you do that? Can you simply pour the oil in and than its bleeded? Wil rebuild my rm 85 forks soon.
@sxsmarine40752 жыл бұрын
Just ride them for about 2 mins after putting in oil and they will be good to go.

How much you put oil for your fork buddy.?
@sxsmarine40752 жыл бұрын
From the factory 350 ml or cc. If the person riding if is alittle bit of a bigger person maybe go 370-380. 350 is more of a recommendation. Some person like woods riding and want the suspensions a little softer. So they use not as much oil.
@crazyhenry62872 жыл бұрын
Well I’ll say it’s still not done. You didn’t bleed the air out.
@sxsmarine40752 жыл бұрын
You should bleed off the air ever time you tie it down in the back of your truck and before each time you ride. No need to do it right after you have just had them open. That is pointless
@jessiej39913 жыл бұрын
Inverted and non-inverted are different
@sxsmarine40753 жыл бұрын
Don’t know if that is a question but yes they are different but mainly how they work but the internals are about the same and you should be able to figure it out. Get on the Rocky Mountain ATV and look up OEM parts for your year of bike and it will show you a diagram of the front forks that will help you take it apart and put it back together

Air shocks.

? Lol they where before I put oil in them pretty much. Air shocks don’t have springs though.

@@sxsmarine4075 Try the plastic from a ziplock bag over the fork tube to get the seals over. I like to put a thin wipe of oil or rubber grease on the inside lips so they don't run dry. ATF fluid makes a good substitute fork oil.

It’s about my 1000s set of forks I have done and hardly use anything most the time and I’m yet to have one leak.
