Got the leatt 5.5 two years ago. Haven't thought about going back to tech 7s since.

I got them, and it was the biggest regret of my riding career. Over jumped a jump (not even enough to wreck but just enough to land flat) it was a decent sized jump but in the air I didn’t think much of it, landed and the boot that is advertised based on its ankle support, completely failed. The boot literally broke and now here I am two surgeries later and 3 plates and 20 screws later wishing I had bought tech 10s

What boot failed on you?

Went instinct to Leatt 5.5 2 years ago. Such a great boot. Super comfy and supportive. Over 150 hours on one pair. They definitely showing wear but still hanging on.

I ride single track in the north east. Im 6ft bout 160 ibs. I had the tech 3, kept mashing toes and messing up my glass ankles. Spent the money on the SG22, put 30 hrs in them and they just keep getting better. I dont even notice the weight anymore. You never know forsure but im pretty sure they saved me from some broke toes and jacked up ankles. Like the old saying....you get what you pay for.

I bought the SIDI Crossair and I'm very happy, they are very light and comfortable.

If you are worried about durability. Get the gaernes. I’ve had a pair of sg10s for exactly 10 years.

5.5 and my new crossair X are my favorite!! The X is probably the best
@DmitriyAdv7 күн бұрын
How would you compare the protection between the two?
@Phitzgood7 күн бұрын
@DmitriyAdv right now, I'd say they are about the same, honestly. 5.5 bas excellent protection as we all know and that sidi is up to par. The Sidis i just got, so they are a little stiffer still. The 5.5 squeaks quite a bit while the sidi is silent.

I´ve have a pair of SG12 that I bought 2013, still ride with them. They are quite stiff and heavy but have saved my ankles a couple of times. The only thing I had replaced are the metal toe. :) When I need to buy a new pair it will possible be the same again, or I will try the Leatt 5.5.

Had TCX 2.1 pros years ago lasted ages, then went to tech 10s love them but didn’t last as long since I started riding enduro as well as moto. Got 3 years out the 10s so not too bad but they have fell to bits. I got the SG22 to try after watching reviews and nobody mention how damn tall it is. So thank you for that, I’m also 5.7 and a short ass, I didn’t even need to sit on the bike to tell it wouldn’t work for me, it was digging into the back of left no where near a 90 degree bend, bit gutted as I wanted to durability and protection form them. Ordered another set of 10s the works well for me

Leatt dont keep water out love them other than that> Just bought over the boot pants to try and stay dry. Why did alpinestars stop making tech 8?
@easyhardenduro98472 күн бұрын
I haven't tried leatt but the sidi crossfire 3 are surprisingly water resistant. More then sg12s and I have never got my tech 8s wet.

Tony Cairoli is in a video with the new Sidi Crossair X It seems to have more protection than the Crossair
@rmatvmc10 күн бұрын
Yeah, I've seen those. They should be available sometime next spring in the US. The will replace the CF3 and have the same sole as the Crossair. - Chase

Chase, Can you discuss the durability aspect more of each boot? What wears out mist on each boot? Soles? Buckles? Ankle pivot details? Are there replacement parts available to repair these issues on each? For example, I have very sharp footpegs that chew up the soles quickly on my Tech 10’s, but Alpinestars sells replacement soles and sole inserts that easily repairs that issue and can do it myself. Does the SG22 or other boots soles wear out? Are replacement soles available? Also, how many hours are on these boots before wear becomes a factor and reduce performance or protection? Thanks for your help…
@rmatvmc6 күн бұрын
All of these boots have replacement soles available so that should really be an issue. You may just have to go through the vendor to get one if we don't offer it. As for durability, with the Tech 10, I hear about them cracking in some areas and the soles wearing out as the two big issues. For Gaerne, the soles last very well and Gavin, who did our SG-22 vs Tech 10 video, has been riding in just the Gaernes for a few months and the only real wear he is seeing is the rubber on the inside of the ankle on his right boot where it contacts the frame as he squeezes the bike, his left boot looks fine though. I think the Fox boots have a bad rap for durability, but I'd put them to last just as long as a Tech 10 or a Leatt. I don't have as much time in a Leatt so I can't give a true comparison of those. I've got about 10 hours in my new Sidi Crossairs and so far, no issue that I'm seeing with durability. Riley Brough, who did the first impressions with me has more time in his and he also hasn't seen any areas wearing particularly fast. As for protection, none will have as much support as a Tech 10 once they're well broken in, but I would say the new Crossair feels like it has the most flex new and once broken. - Chase

Try out the 11. If that doesn't fit correctly we have our fitment guarantee. Return the boots in new/unused condition and we will exchange it for free.

They're pretty similar in height. The only boot that is noticeably taller than the others is the Gaerne.

There's another Premium boot line that unfortunately RM ATV\MC doesn't carry, that's the Forma line. Forma should really be a choice you offer customers. I recently picked up Forma Predator 2.0 boots and they have to be the highest quality off-road boots I've owned. I'm current riding in, just about spent Sidi Crossfire2 TA's, I'll stick with these through the winter but I'm looking forward to running in the Formas once the 25 season gets going.

Just got the Fox Instinct and I’m not impressed. Even though I have large feet, they are oversized. I can’t even shift either my Banshee or YZ125. I miss the days of late 80’s and early 90’leather boot’s.

I love everything about Tech 10’s except the lack of durability. 40 hours and the soles are looking bad. 60ish hours and the soles are TOAST with no hopes of selling the boots. The softer compound lends well to boot feel and comfort. But for us guys that ride a lot and have to pay for our own gear, it’s a BIG expense.
