I've been using the little triple clamp strap rings that fasten on the forks instead of going around the handlebars. Love em.

Just bought my first bike the other night. Love these vids. Very informative. I'm only 5'5" and 116 lbs. My 125 might be little but I've got a bad back so not supposed to lift anything up above me if its heavy. Only bothers me if I'm bending a lot but I still try to be safe. Didn't have ramps when I picked it up but a couple people helped me and it was very easy. Once I get ramps I'll be able to load it on my own just fine. My little ford ranger has just enough room for the bike and it's lower than my gmc so if I have to load it without ramps it's good to know how to load it easily on a low bed vehicle by myself safely. 😀

Hey its been a year, how has the riding been going? Hope everything is good and youve stayed safe! I found a really good single ramp at Menards for about 110 dollars. Kinda pricey, but it folds down pretty compact and it saves my back.

A lot of people, at least on KZbin, seem freaked out about compressing the suspension when tying down a bike. Do you see any issue, as long as you don’t crank it down to coil bind? I don’t see how loading up the forks to hold the bike in place causes any more stress than riding it.

if you over tighten your tie downs , you’ll blow out your “ front fork seals “ , you’ll see fork oil drip down your front forks doing that .

I’ve never used those and I’ve raced for 7 years still ride but never blew fork seals other than casing the shit out of some jumps

@@Mrfurballs the seals blow out after you’ve riden and there is mud on the fork and then all the sudden you crank your forks down past the mud point and that’s when you rip the seal.

2 things, use a tie down on the rear somewhere too, that makes the bike VERY stable will not bounce, like when going over ruts and stuff. And, when securing bike, I like to let the bike lean an inch or two to the inside of bed, if something should ever happen it should stay in truck, and note that the longer tie down will be easier to pull tighter making the bike lean to one side so I don't make bike straight up/center with whichever side you tie first. I also like the bike on the right in my truck, I can still see everything but you can also use kick stand or side stand when securing if done right and it automatically gives you that lean to the inside of bed. But that is for one bike. Maybe 2 if you have room.

72 Chevy Cheyenne.. 3 dirt bikes in rear bed, 2 facing forward one in the middle facing the rear. 2 seat belts per bike ( never had racket straps ), never lost any..

For 3 bikes I'll put to first 2 in with front tires touching in the middle of the bed. Then roll the 3rd one in-between them but backwards. Once the tailgate is closed I strap the 3rd one in that same as the others , just facing the back of the truck. I usually only have 1 bike in the truck though and I've got my setup so that I can load my bike, strap it, and be changing back into my cloths for the ride home in less than 2 minutes. 👍🇺🇲

For a single bike my preferred method is tying the bike down by its footpegs. Relieves the forks of excessive pressure and keeps center of gravity low which helps with stability.

I always use a fork saver between the tire and lower t clamp because it allows me to strap it down really tight without compressing my forks. But if I don't have one of those in the truck I'll go with the foot peg method.

I thought you were going to leave out the Fork Brace, make sure to use those or make your own out of 2x4 if you have to. Or what ever you can cut. Just measure between top of tire and underside of fender under triple clamp, cut an inch or 2 shorter.

I made my own out of wood because it allows me to strap my bike really tight and I'm not compresses my forks an inch. I've got most of my buddies using them now as well.

I secure my bike by the frame , right where the sub frame meet the actual frame. I use motorcycles specific tie downs wedge the front wheel in the bed corner , and swing the rear so the bike can’t roll

Is it just me or do others find the just HOOK ends unreliable to secure bikes under all situations? That his shackle clip end would be preferred ? But most stores don't sell it that way

Makes me wonder now that bikes have rubber cones, can tying them down from the bars misalign your bars slightly? I secure mine on an angle so the straps are pulling each side of the bars in a slightly different direction...

It's more personal preference but putting the bike in diagonally like you mentioned will usually allow you to be able to close the tailgate and can put less pressure on the suspension.

I would just load it straight in and leave the tail gate down unless you have a truck with a very short bed.

Why not hook to the foot pegs?? seems like compressing the suspension might not be good for long drives?

That would be below the center of mass and could easily fall over. They sell a product you can put in between the front fender and tire which blocks the forks from compressing.

cut a block of wood to the correct size so it fits between the fender and the front tyre, that way the straps compress the block of wood and not the suspension and avoids damaging the suspension.

If you have flexbars or rubber mounted bars do not strap to the bars. For good measure always step to the fork between the tripple clamp

Zw1d it’s absolutely not. The gears are being weighted exactly the same way. There is just significantly less load on them. Probably somewhere along the lines of 50 times less than peak load when riding

Much better to lock it in gear as you see in my channel video. No wheel chalk necessary and the tranny on any decent bike can easily take the strain during travel. Having the bike out of gear and rolling free makes it much easier for the straps to loosen and that is a much bigger problem.
