RMC Wild Moose Concept POV | NoLimits 2 | Oaks Amusement Park

My local amusement park, Oaks Park, released that they were considering adding an RMC Wild Moose to their lineup. However, they would have to remove their go-karts if they wished to get the standard layout from RMC. They hoped that it might fit in the parking space next to the go-karts, but due to the L shape of the lot, this wasn't possible. However, I decided to try to create a layout that would not only slot perfectly into this space but also fix many of the problems that the RMC layout had (possible valleying issues, inconsistent pacing, uncomfortable transitions, etc).
When I presented this layout to the ride director and CEO of Oaks Park, they were very receptive of it and, though an addition like this is years down the line for a small park like Oaks, they wanted to stay in contact with me as they moved forward the project. In the meantime, they were interested in me releasing this POV on my channel to see what others thought of the concept.

HUGE credit to Kohl for the Wild Moose trains! ( / @kohlercoaster )
LAYOUT FEATURES:
• World's FIRST outer banked drop!
• Several sustained floater elements
• Giggle inducing twists and turns
• Forces and transitions that are comfortable and appropriate for younger audiences and a class four restraint system
• Slight outwards lateral forces on every turn to enhance sense of speed and add a greater out-of-control feeling (a common technique on wooden coasters)
• More consistent pacing and forces allowing for a "pure fun" ride experience
STATISTICS (RMC layout statistics in paratheses):
• Length: 1,170ft (1,260ft)
• Top speed: 35mph (35mph)
• Height: 50ft (47ft)
• Footprint: ~11,000ft² * (~11,500ft²)
• Duration (lift to brakes): 33s
*Footprint could be significantly reduced as described in "other notes"
Other notes:
• The footprint could be made even smaller if the turnaround at the top of the lift was tightened up and the drop at 0:31 was a falling S hill, turning to the left sooner and immediately rising up into the midcourse brakes.
• Yes, that is the satellite data from google earth in NoLimits 2. No, I am not a wizard.
• This project took roughly 15 hours over the course of 4 days to complete.
• At the time of writing this I work full time at Oaks Park as a ride operator and am a second year student at the University of Denver studying mechanical engineering.

TURN ON SUBTITLES FOR ELEMENT INFO! Note: Positive forces range from 2.3g to 2.6g in large valleys, most turns not mentioned include outside laterals of at least 0.2g, and the maximum negative g force in any seat at any point is -0.3g (outer banked drop, last row left seat)

So awesome you got positive feedback from Oaks! Opportunities to design coaster layouts seem exceedingly rare-it would be really cool to see an “indie” design such as yours become reality.

Yeah, I think just having a third coaster period would bring the park to another level. Btw they're also currently in the process of getting a drop tower! :D edit: it will be in the space of where the food carts are now. I actually put it in the pov if you look to the right as you're going up the lift. It will also be the same model as the drop tower at Silverwood! (not sure about what height they're getting, but it's a great drop tower model either way)

I used the wooden support generator partially, selecting all the supports and everything else to steel beams (3x3 L beam). However that really only got about 2/3rds of the supports needed, so I had to add some additional supports. This all took me about 7 hours to do iirc.

Wow, fantastic job! What a great improvement to the Wild Moose layout. Love that outerbank into the drop! Really hope this ride concept takes off and we see a few custom versions like this! Thanks in advance!

@jacksongrace Жыл бұрын
Thanks you! Also getting the Google Earth data is actually surprisingly easy once you have it set up. If you want to do it, follow all the instructions in the two links below! You will need to replace one of the files in the download of the first link with the file in the second download. Google Earth Decoder: www.reddit.com/r/FS2020Creation/comments/j3faaj/google_earth_decoder_now_userfriendly/ Update to Google Earth Decoder (won't work without it): flightsim.to/file/39900/gogole-earth-decoder-update Once you have it all set up, open Google Earth decoder, select the area you want, select the output folder, adjust the LOD range (the higher both of the nodes are, the more detailed), and download the file. The file you just downloaded should be called "modelLib." Open this folder, then open the "texture" folder inside it, and move all the images out of the texture folder into the modelLib folder. Finally open blender and import everything from inside the modelLib folder. Then you can export everything from blender as a .gltf and import it into NoLimits 2!

I wanted an RMC inversion or wall walk. That could be such a cool spectacle in this compact layout, maybe try a big gerstlauer-type long hanging inversion that stretches over the layout. Dip a curving drop hill under most of the rest of the track and emerge with a long hanging inversion to dip you into the rest of the layout.
@jacksongrace
@jacksongrace 10 ай бұрын
Well, the wild moose model has a lot of restrictions, including class 4 restraints which only allow up to -0.2g (or really 0g to be safe and account for variability). The park owner and ride manager of Oaks also said explicitly that they wanted this coaster to be as different from Adrenaline Peak as possible. This included focusing more on hills and laterals, and being family friendly (both of which remove inversions as an option). However I do like the ideas you presented. A compact thrill coaster in this style could be a pretty fun concept, kind of like an El Loco but with longer trains :)
@glenntaylor9144
@glenntaylor9144 10 ай бұрын
One of these could work so well at Thorpe park, Alton or chessington. But Pat realistic place is Paultons Park as this is a far more family friendly ride and Paultons are brave enough to invest in such rides.

tut to make coaster smooth??
@jacksongrace
@jacksongrace Жыл бұрын
My smoothing method in a nutshell is that after I’ve finished the track shaping, with low laterals, finalized roll nodes, and a lot of track verticies but still with some jitters, I add a track vertex in-between almost every original track vertex (so about double the number). While doing this I move all the roll nodes back to where they originally were if they move. I then simply depump everything. Edit: I never depump at any other point, only at the very end. Also the sole point of the addition of vertices is to make sure the track doesn’t move as much from its original path when being depumped.

Is this game easier to make smooth coasters than planet coaster?
@jacksongrace
@jacksongrace Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! It takes some practice of course, but after a while you can make something not just incredibly smooth but also fully intentional in relatively short amount of time (though getting the shaping I wanted took a bit longer, the smoothing process I used took me at most 30 minutes for this coaster)
