I remember crystal clear many saying back then that EASTERN EUROPE was Eurovision block voting mafia. Except for Turkey, no country here had a free pass year after year. Serbia, Hungary, Georgia or Moldova qualification always depends on their songs. Slovenia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Latvia and Belarus are often rather underrated.

I'm Danish and many of the Western European countries just didn't deserve to qualify that year, all the qualifiers except North Macedonia were richly deserved imo

Many of the pre-qualified songs were trash that year. Because of them many good songs eliminated during semi final. Top 10 rule was the worst thing about Eurovision. Thank God it's no longer applied.

Let's not forget how in 2006 the 10 semifinal songs ended up in the top-12 in the final (even though there were some underrated gems that year like "Moja Stikla" & "Alvedansen"). But yeah, the countries in the final kinda seemed to take it for granted.

portugal, andorra, iceland, poland and cyprus easily would've made it with the 2 semi system. it was really unfair for the ebu to use the 1 semi system in the first place. it decreased the quality of so many finals and tainted the good production of 2006 and 2007

@@ronweasley6585 That was exactly the issue back then. All the eastern european countries voted for each other and not as much for western european. In western european countries there were some strong eastern european diasporas that also voted for their countries. As a result the western tended to receive less points than the eastern. At least, a lot of people believe so :) I think, that was one the reasons of introduction of the jury. Nowadays televoting does not seem to be influenced as much by block voting and diasporas, as back then.
