Not many onboard films of interiors of the great ships! Nice to see how beautiful and why Aquitania was so loved! Thanks!

I'd be happy to take a trip on this ship. I'd rather this than the new cruise ships any day!

They did not call her "The Ship Beautiful" for nothing! A vessel with style and class, nothing to compare with the floating amusement parks of today!

@@Darrigrande Exactly! My grandmother came over n the Aquitania on its maiden voyage, first class.

A veritable floating palace! By far my absolute favourite ocean liner! ❤️

Oh boy, I sure do love tea time in a magnificent light-and-airy lounge meticulously decorated with amazing carvings and paintings before going back to my 1st class motel room :)

There was some controversy about the interiors of the Aquitainia. The same company was working on designing the interiors of the Aquitainia and the German Imperator class at the same time. They signed an agreement that they wouldn't share any ideas, but many people thought that agreement was broken, as the interior of the Aquitainia and imperator class were strikingly similar in large part.

Great footage! And thanks for Smokey Mokes.😀

Some of the exterior footage looks familiar to me. Is it possibly from the time the Aquitania was on her way to the scrapyard? Diplomat Harold Nicolson wrote that a week of the Normandie would "drive me mad" but I think one could spend a long time aboard the Aquitania in her beautiful interiors and not grow tired of it.

People who can’t stand the Normandie have clearly never experienced happiness.

It's very interesting how even the first class cabins look fairly basic by today's standards. Something that pretty much all of the great liners had. The public rooms very very grandiose. Not so much the private cabins.
@litamtondy3 жыл бұрын
True. I feel like the competition had way better cabins, especially French liners.

The 2-deck high 1st class dining room, stunning Palladian lounge, 2-deck smoking room, library, main hall and staircase and swimming pool were all more impressive than the equivalent spaces on the Olympic Class ships as Aquitania was designed to compete w/the new larger German liner Imperator and her sisters. Aquitania was a step above the Olympic Class in decor and certainly a step above the faster though smaller Mauretania and Lusitania.

lasuvidaboy to be honest, Titanic and Mauritania were my favorite ship in first class decor. My favorite room on Mauritania was the first class dining room, favorite on Titanic was the first class lounge.

in exterior Olympic looks cleaner and Aquitania boxy
@danielito7506 жыл бұрын
wrong, Olympic class liners interiror (1st class) are waaaay better looking, and In exterior, Olympic Class yis the best no contest (with Titanic being the best of course). There's no way in hell, that the Aquitania's 1st Class Grand Staircase (similar to Lucy's and Maury's) is better looking than the Olympic's... seriously wtf?x'D

Uhm, all of you are right. The Aquitania was ahead of the Olympic Class in all ways, in luxury, size, and speed, the Titanic had almost no skydomes, and the Aquitania grander rooms. And good point, Aquitania's exterior wasn't the best. BUT on the Lusitania and Mauretania there were skylights in every first and second class public room, except for the second class dining saloon, and the first class dining saloon which had a plaster dome. In my opinion the Lusitania and Mauretania were the best of the Olympic Class and Lusitania, Mauretania, and Aquitania.

@@carlosiiideespana3712 the Lusitania and Mauretania had a really big problem that made parts of the ship virtually uninhabitable at times - vibration. It was so bad that they needed extensive rebuilding, and even then it didn't fully solve the problem

Outside was very ugly looking... nothing refined but wowww inside they was real palaces.... vs White star line that outside ships was really sleek and beautiful but inside they was more like dracula's home... pretty old fashion designed... the perfect ship could be the Titanic's hull with the Aquitania's interiors 🤍🤍🤍🤍

The Olympic has nicer lines from the side view
@shiplovers65484 жыл бұрын
but I am bored with the interior, because I often watch Titanic, the grand staircase for sure the same🙁 that's why I'm bored with Olympic class

Yes,You can call aquitania"boxy"but it is more luxurious
@jimcrawford50392 жыл бұрын
I never thought she was a nice looking ship at all. Her interiors were typical of her times. I was a seaman in the late fifties to 1965. The liners then we’re far nicer looking and far nicer inside.

Catch the fake fireplaces : on a ship. Very corny British. For style, you take the French Line !
@JWRogersPS4 жыл бұрын
It wasn't fake. It actually burned coal.
@bellevueace64 жыл бұрын
Fake? Afraid not. That you can click on a video of one of the most significant and well-loved liners ever and make a feeble attempt at throwing shade upon it is pathetic.
@JWRogersPS4 жыл бұрын
@ : Many large liners of the time had coal burning fireplaces in their 1st class smoking rooms. Aquitania was no exception. I've been studying ocean line design for over 40 years. I know what I'm talking about.
