When I was really little, I went with family members to a Titanic exhibit where they had this piece of the hull on display. I remember there was a special sprinkler system set up above it which would sporadically spray a very gentle mist all over it because the metal would apparently crumble if it dried out. The piece was positioned so that a corner of it overhung the railing surrounding it, allowing visitors to actually touch it and I got to do so. To this day, I still can't get over how surreal that was.

I just saw this Big Piece on display at the exhibition in Las Vegas a few days ago, and we were definitely not allowed to touch it. It was roped up, with many "do not touch" signs around. I understand the precautions, but man that would've been an amazing experience (more so than the exhibition already was).

Why don’t they keep bringing up all of it until they have the whole ship?
@BuffMarioBoi4 ай бұрын
The Big Piece was directly impacted by the Titanic breaking in two, so it was not a part of the two main pieces of the Titanic wreck, it was a part of the debris field, and it was a smaller piece, so they were able to raise it up, the two main pieces are still largely connected to each other, and cutting pieces off may impact the wreck significantly no matter how small it is, the main pieces are extremely fragile and would crumble into basically dust if moved, so cutting off a piece of the two main pieces would probably also crumble if tried to be raised

I made some adjustments to plan to lift the titanic. They were going to put a big steel mesh arround it then use liquid nitrogen to cover it in ice then it would lift to the surface. But the nitrogen would just disappear when you let it out of the canister. In my idea they would loop copper pipe all over the ship and make sure it is touching the most structural parts of the ship. Wind the copper tubing throughout the entire ship making sure to cover as much as possible looping it arround strong steel parts of the ship. Next run isulated tubes up to the surface. Then using pumps start pumping liquid nitrogen down into the copper tubing then back up to the surface. The copper will start to accumulate ice on it keep pumping tons of liquid nitrogen until the ice starts to accumulate on parts of the ship. Eventually the ship will be coated in a thick layer of ice. Giving that the ship weighs alot less than it did when it sank it should start to float. If it doesn't we could use Crains to lift it off the sea floor using alot less energy that we would if the ship wasn't covered in ice.

the same technique can be used to lift other big pieces of titanic and one day the whole ship will be on surface

Titanic received a coat of grey primer in Febuary 1912 then painted with her black finish colour while being fitted out plus her super structure and funnels . A ship has to be primed with a anti rust grey primer before the top coat ,the grey colour was the only colour available in 1912 .

This blows the whole theory about the ship rusting away ! I have seen much worse scondition ships still afloat with hull in a far more state of decay . Look at the rivet heads , pin sharp as the day they were installed , the porthole aperture , no rot there . This means that the ship is in good condition and will stay like it is until somebody finds that the two names on the undamaged bows are not quite as they should be .

How do they recover the ballast chains?
@pietpihl6500 Жыл бұрын
Hey Horizon. I notice your question and if you haven't already gotten an answer or found it then here :) They don't recover the ballast chains, it will stay there for ever. There are many diffrent kinds of ballast from earlier dives, all around the ocean floor and on some parts of the deck of the Titanic. They are never ment to be recovered from the ocean floor. To all luck there are now laws that prohibites raising bigger pieces as the area around Titanic is under the protection of law from UNESCO, and a few minor international law. There are very few ways to get a legal access to raise diffrent artifacts from the wreck, but it is still possible and the way have to be a clean way so there is no more leaving ballast all around. Many people just see the ballast as old nearly useless iron or other meterial, so they just kinda get rid of it this way and get a few nice things up in the mean time. this in my view ruins the area and are even more disrespecting then taking a plate or an old briefcase up. If you haven't seen it then try to seach on KZbin "Robert Ballard: Restore the Titanic | Nat Geo Live" Robert explane why its very disrespecfull to leave the ballast on the ocean floor in the video, its about 20 mins long but very good.

Harland and Wolff was one of the best shipyards at the time even capable of cutting off entire bow and replacing it. So a gash and twisted propeller shaft was easy for them. JP Morgan wasn't even going to be in the ship. He already publicized he will be going to France. He was there to overlook his art exports and other businesses.
