It’s truly a never ending quest. I’m 56 and currently own 46 guitars. That’s just nuts. I’m not a touring musician and play drums in a couple project bands. I just don’t want to sell them, I’ve given away far more than I’ve sold the last ten years. They are works of art and I just love everything about them. Luckily, my wife plays and loves them too.

I personally have 27 guitars right now that’s not counting my wife’s guitars or my sons guitars. I send the herd a little bit this year but I also replaced the ones I got rid of 27. Seems like a lot at the moment but I still want more.

From Leo: Happy that you have guitars that you can really enjoy. I am more of an SG fan, and have both a vintage and a more recent Gibson SG. I also have a Korean Epiphone SG. I like the look, sounds and the feel of the Epiphone better than the Gibsons. The Gibsons are still worth more money, even though they just stay in their cases. That makes me question everything. I'm here with y'all. I've even tried to trim down, but then would get deals like "would you trade your EBMM Luke III for a G&L Fullerton blackburst Legacy (Strat HSS) AND a Gretsch 5420? I mean, how could I say no!? That was over two years ago (2022) and I still have both of them. I've come across some great Epiphones (more have been forgettable). I ended-up with a new, at the time, (2022) white Les Paul Custom. Swapped in a Gotoh bridge, bone nut, CTS pots w/ push pulls to split coils on one of my favorite pickups - Seymour Duncan Jazz/JB set. It definitely rivals my Gibsons. I kind of like its neck shape better than my Standards. It's got a funny flat spot as it transitions from the edge of the neck to the back, and I actually like it. Never had another guitar neck like it, and I've been through about 70-80 and have around 30 now.

Fender ‘62 re-issue Tele. That started a journey to never never land. Now, I own 47 leftys. Including my Martin D45, ($10,000), and 5 more Martins, (can’t forget my EC 000-28). My Gibson LP’s, 335’s, and my holy grail, Gibson L-5 ( another $10,000). I got J200’s D28’s, 0-18, the list goes on. Anyway, when you are left-hand, you simply CANNOT LEAVE ANY DECENT LEFTY UNBOUGHT. Well at least I can’t. By the way, I’m a retired carpenter, married 46 years and raised 3 sons. I’m not rich, just focused. More power to all guitar players who seek perfection in an un perfect world. I don’t, however, by imports, generally. I used to be a pickup swapper and then I started fiddling with my EQ pedal, with the sliders all flat it acts as a boost, but most of the time I fiddle with the settings until I find something I am happy with, 9 times out of 10 I find a tone I am happy with and save some money.

It's the little things that count. Most guitars can be made to play just fine with some TLC. Are there some duds? Yep. But my experience has been, if you look hard enough. You can find flaws in any guitar. Minimizing the guitars shortcomings, and optimizing it's strengths. Will more often than not, get you an acceptable playing example. I'm convinced there's no such thing as a perfect guitar. You have to make them what you want. Mod the shit out of it if nessessary.

I agree with all of that!

@@RNAMusic Those gold hat knobs look way better than the black speed units on that model. Have you considered thumb bleeders on it? I've found they generally only look good on vintage inspired models. My '59 standard outfit has them gold hats and bleeders. Looks absolutely mint, on that example. The colors vary soo drastically on most Epiphones, that it's a fine line between what parts look best on one.

We've always made our living from teaching. For 15 years. There was a time that we had wall to wall guitars and amps for sale in the shop, but even back then our lesson studio made all the money. Profit margins in gear aren't that spectacular, small stores cant even buy it at the costs as GC and Sweetwater so margins for small dealers are even less than the industry standard. I dialed back selling online because i got a bit tired of constant lowball offers. We do have some guitars and basses for sale at the moment at the shop. We also sell strings, picks capos and cables almost every day. Always selling accessories to the locals here in Canton. After getting burned by a few guitar companies, I decided to keep our focus on what actually pays the bills and always has. Teaching lessons. We will still have some stuff in the shop, but getting nickeled and dimed to to death over gear was tedious. Thank you for the well wishes with teaching! We have in fact had AMAZING success with our lesson programs and supported our family and others with that for years!
