The Democratic and Republican national conventions had slightly different approaches when it came to delegate roll calls.

On both sides it's kind of sad that politics has become a reality TV show or concert because it's supposed to be serious and professional, but if this makes my generation vote then all well.
@crowguy365 ай бұрын
@@emilyau8023 I believe it should be serious and professional when they are in office, at meetings with other leaders, working in congress, and speaking to the public on issues. But I actually think this is a beautiful thing for democracy. Getting people passionate about their country. And it's working. Working to make the world a better place shouldn't be stuffy unless we have to be one of the suits on congress floor. For the rest of us, its about bringing that sort of energy and enthusiasm to our own communities. High energy and excitement drive people to action! It doesn't mean everything needs to be a party, but I love seeing the human side of politics! Connect to the people and you have their heart. That said, I wish people reporting spent less time on Lil Jon and more clip-packages of the states themselves. They had some BRILLIANT speakers that kept the energy and enthusiasm while letting us feel the heart and pride of that state's people. That was the most patriotic thing I have seen in a long, long time, and I wish that's what they were plastering everywhere.

@katrinab7657 the whole POINT of a political party convention IS TO "virtue signal" it is a time that the party comes together with one message and try to get the rest of the nation to join that message. Back in the day, before TV it was newspapers covering it. Who came, who spoke, with speaches being printed in the paper. Traditionally it has been a rather somber and dry affair. If Regan can move the swearing in outside to the balcony, then the DNC can have an MC.
@tejaswoman5 ай бұрын
@@katrinab7657what are you talking about? For decades the convention roll call on either side of the aisle has been a time for that state's delegates not only to nominate the nominee, but to highlight what is great about their state, possibly even while touting the state's relevance to key party platform principles. Wyoming's statement at the RNC was basically about how they're great bc their outsized electoral punch helped _Trump_ (with a little nod to their rancher roots). Wyoming's DNC delegation highlighted impressive aspects of their state and in particular, how those relate to the party platform as well as the nominee. Roll call at a convention has historically been all about signaling what the virtues of one's state and candidate are.

I had a coworker -LGBTQ, liberal, etc etc- who said yesterday “and it turns out I like America” 😂 But isn’t that the truth of it? American pride, patriotism, and all that comes with it has felt so hijacked by republican MAGA over the last few years. My dad- a REPUBLCAN in the original sense of the word, bought a new home in a lake, but struggled with putting the American flag out on his boat dock because he felt it would give the wrong impression that he was MAGA. 🤦🏽♀️ My own kids hated that when we moved in to a new house that there was a flag pole out front with an American flag flying. They worried people would believe we-too- were MAGA. Flying a pride flag under it seemed to be the only way to quell their concern. It feels so good to reclaim patriotism and hear “USA” being chanted in a much different way! 🇺🇸
