I was a Sherriff’s deputy at Orleans Parish Prison back in 2016. They had just opened the new jail that’s called OJC(Orleans Justice Center) and my class was one of the first few classes to start off working in the new jail. During our academy nearing graduation, they took us on a tour of this building (OPP). They still had some deputies working in there in some parts of it. It was filled with rats, old food trays with rotted food still on them, mold, etc. Absolutely atrocious.

I'm from NOLA and my brother was in that shit hole during katrina for a bullshit weed charge! He was only in there for 2 days before the hurricane landed. He suffers from severe PTSD and still to this day won't talk about what happened. Thank god he was able to get on with his life and has a beautiful family and great job now. For awhile he was like a shell of himself because of the shit he saw in there. Thanks for sharing because I've always been curious what it looked like inside!

That’s not birth control - That’s how patient specific meds come packaged. They’re also known as “bingo cards”. It’s a way to keep better control over med administration.

Yeah, I was just going to say that. Medications get packaged that way for distribution by people who may not be doctors or nurses. Each set of meds would be in one section of the package. One section per day or per dose time.

The handcuffs you found near the beginning were Ankle style. Those control modules in the officer's control room can also be used to turn off the water in ALL the cells when they have an inmate shakedown. You can't flush your contraband down the bowl. EXCELLENT explore, Rob!!

I could not imagine being stuck in that place for years on end, 23 hours per day and then getting to spend an hour out on that horrid roof top with only the sky above. I think that it was prolly a blessing that it got wrecked by Katrina! Thanks Robb! Great work! xx

A 'jail' is also known as a 'detention center'. These facilities are for accused inmates awaiting trial that cannot post bond or whose bail has not been set. After a conviction at trial, the inmate is sentenced and sent to 'prison' . So while the terms 'jail' and 'prison' are confused a lot, they really aren't the same thing. You had the right idea Rob, describing this facility as a 'city jail' and a stopping point for inmates on their way elsewhere. Just to add confusion: COUNTY jails can serve as both detention centers and prisons depending on the severity of the crime committed and length of sentence (shorter)

They used this jail after Hurricane Katrina until 2012. That is when they open the new jail. Living here in New Orleans I can remember back in 2009 when guards was letting inmates out at night partying on Bourbon St.. Drugs and alcohol was allowed in by guards. It was over packed with up to 6 to 10 inmates in each cell, some sleeping on the floor. They just let this place go and did not do anything with it.

@adamtarver
@adamtarver 3 жыл бұрын
KIMBER yep. Same here. Those are most definitely leg irons, everyone on the bottom tiers drowned, and those were definitely not birth control pills. We both know that that’s the way inmates get their meds nowadays. And that “skeleton” key most certainly won’t open every door. Lol. He’d actually probably have a hard time finding the door it actually does unlock. All those keys look the same for a reason. But you and I both know that. I served in three Institutions here in Louisiana in various units.

It looks like the city has had it cleaned up after the storm. Because I am don't see water marks on hardly any of the walls or surfaces. It appears that maybe the city did originally plan to salvage the building. Cause your right, all of the furniture is in place and I would have expected the inside of this place to be absolutely dripping in mold and fungus and gunk all over the walls and all over everything. Crazy. Some stuff is disarray, but overall, you can't really tell the place took on water up to the ceilings in places. Nasty Katrina water.

It pisses me off that there are so many jails that are abandoned and the jails that are open are overcrowded if they would redo the jails that are closed it would give more people damn jobs. I watched a documentary about the hurricane and they in one part was talking about the jails how the guards just litterally left the prisoners to basically survive for themselves for about a week.

Hopefully you are not one of the pharmaceutical "experts" or "Doctors" who refuse to treat pneumonia & influenza with life saving traditional medicine in an effort to murder patients and receive 56k dollars for killing innocent people! I think someone else owns it now but I'm sure security still sits there. Also, there was an office for the building director on LaSalle street. "You'd have no idea an office was in this particular building". This guy was pretty mean but either he or the security guards can point you to a man by the name of Roy... I think that's his name and he's probably retired. But Roy had every key for that building. The security guards were scared to walk in that building, they all had stories about ghost. They even downloaded an app to identify activity.

Security would tell me about a light and lady on the street they'd see from the 11th or 14th floor. The Lady would also appear on the Tulane avenue side in their rearview mirrors at night. My advice is if you can't get a good relationship with the security guards, you could try and find the building director who was a not so nice guy. I'll never forget the look security had on their faces when we were in there looking for ghost lol.

WHY was the dial tone sound coming from a disconnected handset? Because it wouldn't be an RNK video without it! I love your vids!

Suprised they di not demolish it. Would be a neat place to buy and turn into a awesome bed and breakfast with a unique twist.

RnK. You have done it again first the Boxing Gym. Now a proper jail. Can see Lock Up Raw going through my mind as you tour the place. Excellent explore. More please. From Craig Lee. England.

There are so many Parrish's in Louisiana that never recovered from this hurricane! I'll never forget Barbra Bush's comment about moving a lot of people to Texas"There better off now than they were before" The roots were deep in Louisiana ❤

That "weird looking chair" was probably a metal detector. They'd have the inmates sit on it to make sure they didn't have metal weapons hidden in their body cavity. The shelf at the top, the inmates would have to put their faces on to see if any razor blades were hidden in the mouth.
