I don't see the difference between the rnli and a lorry driver caught entering the uk with illegals in the back of the trailer? I can only assume that the government and the rnli are exploiting some maritime law around sea rescue? If that is the case, and I'm no an expert, surely that law would state that when a captain has come to the aid of a stricken vessel it is his duty to ensure that those rescued are taken to the nearest safe harbour? So in most cases France!

Those arriving on EU shores would have been able to arrive in Britain after being furnished with an EU passport. Having served aboard the old HMS Ark Royal I know the dangers of the sea and have always supported, generously, the RNLI. UNTIL! a friend of mine whos uncle died in service of the RNLI on a failed rescue, used to with me raise awareness of the RNLI by operating a amateur radio special event, as soon as they became the Calais taxi service he commented to me "i am damm sure my Uncle did not give his life for non genuine people", the upshot is the awareness station which over 2 weekends we used to get 1600+ contacts from all over the world has not happened now for going on 5 years, yes i can apply for the permissions to restart the Special Event, and my friend will operate, but i am of the same opinion as him there illegals that should never have been allowed to leave the french coast,according to European laws , the FIRST country of safe haven is where you claim asylum not the UK !!!

I am an ex Merchant Seaman and an RNLI supporter for many years. I have now ceased donating, as using the RNLI as a free taxi service for illegals to me is anathema. I resent volunteers being called out to import illegal immigrants and potential/actual criminals. The English Channel has served as a defence to the UK for over two thousand years and should be left to do so. All it takes is an instruction to the Coastguard not to call out the RNLI for dinghy sightings. Let these people take their chances with the sea. The so-called Border Force should be set to Fishing Protection and illegals only met on the beaches. At the very least it will double their fuel bill and increase their fares. There is also the overlooked point that illegally landing in UK is a criminal offence (to foreign nationals) and they should all be arrested and processed on that basis, not treated as marine disaster survivors. This would enable confiscation of their phones for intelligence purpose and their subsequent rejection as asylum seekers due to their criminal record, a neat Catch 22.

As I mentioned the other day, the RNLI in my home port was more like a big family. It wasn't just the people who crewed them, it also gathered the crews families as a big concern. I well remember the 1970s and how our family involvement was a whole social scene in its own - they were good days. Things fell apart as the charity was taken over by 'managers' (on huge wages I might add) who then turned the thing into something like a big business while keeping the charity moniker. It ruined everything. Gone was the feeling that it was all about saving lives on perilous seas and in came cost cutting and other barmy ideas - the latest being the woke mentality. It became a corporate machine that did not care so much about life saving basics. It breaks my heart to think that an older person somewhere has left a legacy in their will thinking that it will be used for saving a sailors life, the reality being that the legacy will be used to carry an illegal into Britain and that illegal will be then given medical priority over an old person..

Have great admiration for the volunteer RNLI crews who risk their lives sometimes in terrible weather conditions. Unfortunately they have a terrible Management who have made the RNLI into nothing more than a taxi service for illegal criminals ( entering a Country illegally is a criminal offence) and by doing so have contributed to the RNLIs inevitable downfall.

Living in the north east of the UK, I have had several RNLI letters asking me to donate via direct debit etc. These went in the bin. I have also had people knocking at my door for the same reason. What was once a nationally respected charity, has become a national laughing stock.

My dad was an old sailor who always gave to the RNLI we had a collection at his funeral I am glad he cannot see what is happening now. He never really recovered mentally from the work he had done during 2WW and after in the Royal Navy, all that work has gone down the pan now it is a free for all.

I intended to leave the RNLI a 5 figure sum in my will and have emailed them to say I will never give to them again for what they are doing I received a reply from the head of the RNLI saying he was sorry I thought like that but they had been instructed by the government to do it I replied that as it's public donations that fund them he would be within his rights to refuse to do it. I absolutely refuse to donate a single penny to the RNLI having given regularly in the past. RNLI members are volunteers who willingly (they are not compelled) facilitate the invasion of this country by economic migrants. It would be nice to see RNLI members demonstrate some integrity. If they feel compelled to bring these people to our shores then they (RNLI members) should accommodate them in their own homes and maintain them entirely at their own expense. But, of course, they decline to do this - instead they dump these economic migrants on the quayside thereby forcing the unfortunate local authority concerned to pick up the problem at taxpayers expense! Its time RNLI members took responsibility for their anti-social actions and paid for their do-gooding out of their own pockets.

One thing I don't know if amyones looked into it or not is that a while ago if a Lorry driver was found to have an illegal migrant who had sneaked into the back of his Lorry he or his company were given a heavy fine.
