Great video Sir, I think an issue one might have with the flatness of the KM calls is that it doesn’t sound like all of the calls most of us have heard for years , J-frame calls and such. I have two KM calls and that’s all I use now that I’ve overcome the mindset of needing to sound certain way (like the j-frame calls)
@DaddyDuck3653 жыл бұрын
Blowing a cut down is so much different than blowing a traditional j frame which is were a lot of guys think the call blows flat……thanks for watching
@mikeries85492 жыл бұрын
If I try j-frame style on a mondo I'm lucky to get 3 quacks before running out of air. I switched to going kak kak kak kak and that works great. The kuh on the start really pushes the air right. 😉

You are correct about the meat part. Mondo is like a real mallard. That on stage stuff is just that… Hollywood. If you have to scream at ducks that loud you need to move where the ducks wanna be. Ridiculous. Never understood how you can win a duck call contest making a sound that ducks can’t even make. Good vid

A short history lesson: A few decades back...at the lower vallier campground at Bayou Meto WMA was ground zero for the development of "cut down olts". The call makers of today were kids then and they were taught by old timers that filed or 'cut' keyhole olt d2's on cinder blocks in camp. You'd see tables lined with calls allegedly. I know someone that lived it. I've got a modified keyhole olt. Tape the insert on with electric tape!

I tested a bunch of cutdowns with a decibel meter. Power Calls Ignition was the loudest, followed by a Kirk McCullough Outlaw. The Mondo wasn't as loud as the Ignition, but we're talking about like 109 decibels vs 103. Mondo, Rolling Thunder Brute, and Timber Thief were right in there together. The thing I like about the Ignition and the Mondo is that they keep rattle throughout the range. My KM calls get flat in the mid range.

The very loudest call I know of is made of delrin by Rainman Calls. Two reeds. Tapered insert that is very large bored. Your buddies will HATE it. You'll have to provide ear plugs for everyone. Its called WHITE LIGHTNING. VERY unique call it has Louisiana style guts so don't take it apart. Re-tuning it may take a while. White Lightning. I've seen guides break sky high mallards with it. Very loud you'll need ear plugs.

@DaddyDuck3654 жыл бұрын
Like all cutdown calls they are different sounding than the regular j frame call. And you have to retrain yourself to call on them.
